"Using Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) to perform High Performance Computing"
Abstract:
In the past decade, high performance computing has evolved from tightly coupled
systems to cluster based systems, which have provided better performance with
less expensive hardware. Now there has been a similar evolution using GPUs
(Graphics Processing Units) embedded in graphics cards and game consoles to
perform low level number crunching up to 50 times faster than a CPU core.
In this seminar I will brief you on techniques for programming the inexpensive
Playstation/3 and the efficiency and limitations of the techniques. An example
computational chemistry code is briefly discussed.
