Videoconferencing for the Interactive Classroom (VIC) fosters student excitement for learning which supports the academic, social and technological goals of the Twin Rivers Unified School District's diverse population of students. We serve to empowers students and teachers of all levels to work in an active and collaborative manner to ensure success both inside and outside of the Twin Rivers Unified School District.
Offerings:
- District Events- Free one-time events involving teachers, students, and/or activities within the district.
- Content Provider Events- Free one-time event involving teachers, students and/or activities outside the district (content provider, expert, other class). Participating teachers are eligible for one hour of VIC prep time at the non-instructional rate.
- VIC Trips- Take your entire class on a field trip! Simply complete three VIC events with content providers and your class qualifies for a field trip. Participating teachers are eligible for eight
hours of VIC prep time at the non-instructional rate.
- Connections- Year-long VIC classroom to classroom partnerships. Participating teachers are eligible for paid VIC meeting and prep time at the non-instructional rate. In addition a laptop and digital camera is provided for use in the program.
- To achieve integration through providing a variety of opportunities for the interactions among students from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Use of videoconferencing as primary tool to provide multiple types of programs and interactions with partner classroom, experts, researchers etc.
- Use of face to face connections that enhance the goals and standards of the unit .
- Conduct activities in the field for collaborative study and research.
- To better meet the academic needs of the diverse students of TRUSD through unit and lesson plans that:
- Are based on grade-level content standards;
- Incorporate activities that enhance access to standards that relate to the content areas as represented by the team;
- Enhance students’ understanding and appreciation for diversity;
- Integrate the use of various technologies; and
- Include student reflections that demonstrate connection to content.
- To use technology to mitigate the negative effects of racial isolation, develop marketable skills, and enhance the learning process.Plan connections between partnership classroom: videoconferencing, blogs, email, shared folders, Google Groups, and more.
- Arrange connections with outside providers, institutions, businesses, etc. in the local, state, and national arenas.
- Encourage student use of technology for research, products, communications and interactions within the classroom/s, and presentations.
- Use of technology by teachers to demonstrate achievement of the team’s goals, deliver instruction and connect and motivate students to explore the community and world around them.
