ANTHONY ROSADY ("Ami") was born in Palembang, Sumatra. As the youngest member of Tropical Transit, he prefers to keep his age a secret (but will reveal his birthday falls on March 1). The only musician in his family, Ami joined teenage bands when he was in high school. His performance highlights include the Bali Jazz Parade in 2000, the Nusa Dua World Music Festival Bali in 2001, the Nusa Dua Jazz Festival in 2004, and the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival in the past two years. He has also performed with Indonesian bands Kayane, Duotone and Soulmate. Ami joined Tropical Transit in 2002 as a vocalist, when one of the group’s original vocalists, Bobby, moved to Korea to perform in the hotel and club scene there. The sexy strains of Ami’s sweet tenor voice are well reflected in songs like "Girl from Ipanema" and "Roxanne" which he covers with Tropical Transit in hotels and restaurants. But he truly shines, when he performs original compositions like "Pawisik", and "When the Time Comes", written for him by his friend and mentor Cahyadi. Like the other members of the group, Ami feels the power of the special performances with Tropical Transit. He says that on some of these occasions he has even experienced the colour of music. “It’s difficult to describe what happens,” he says of this phenomenon. “There is a mix of spirituality and colour. I’ve never experienced that energy with any other group and it’s become very important to me.” |
