The Complete Menu (Not Quite Sure What Patterns Are Hot At The Ranch? Give Us A Call) !
April Spring Days Are Fantastic Right Now.
Blue Olive Wing Duns and Caddis flies are poping up all over the ranch mid morning and late afternoon hatches. The Rainbows take on a really dark color and look just like spawning Utah Steel Heads. Tiger trout are in full spawn colors. We have morning & afternoon hatches of gnats & mayflies most days.
This is not a hatchery fishing experience and the fish have a perfect living environment with a year round natural food source. So come prepared to do some work and you will be rewarded with beautiful "spawning" trout in full brilliant colors. The trout must be an adult to produce the colors and this takes 3-5 years for the juvenile to mature. The older the fish the "wider" the color bars on the sides of the body. Our Tiger Trout & Rainbow Trout are all over 5 years of age so the color bars on the rainbows are half a body wide. The Tigers have bright orange or red bellies and fins during spawn times. Even though the Tigers are sterile they still have the hormones in their body that produce these vibrant colors at spawn time.
With the warm sunny late mornings and afternoons the waters are coming alive with hatches (unless it's snowing). It is Spring and the insects are making themselves known while the fish enjoy the feast! Spiders and beetles are starting to make their appearance at the ranch so life is coming back and this means DRY FLY Fishing!!!!! If the dry flies are slow switch out to leeches and scuds with chironomids. These basic fly patterns always make the grade consistantly at the ranch no matter the time of year or weather conditions and now is not an exception. Well rested fish don't become picky or leader shy. With a large healthy trout population here on the ranch there are plenty of trophies circulating and ready to take a fly while the leary ones rest and eat. Fish When You Want, Not When Someone Tells You To!
Best hours to fish are when you arrive, you have "bankers" hours for fishing. When you have your own reservation you show up at the time that is convenient for you. No worries about the guy in front of you catching all the fish, because there is no one in front of you on your reserved day at the ranch. Even if you only fish for a couple of hours, that is all you pay for and no one fishes in front of you or after you. Come at 11:00 and fish until early after noon and be around when the midge hatches come on. Now this is a real deal. No crowds, no hurry, the fish are all yours along with the natural beauty and complete solitude on a 10,000 acre ranch. This can't be beat!
