Knot Tying by Mr. Ketterling Welcome to the Troop 97 webpage on Knot Tying. This site is dedicated to learning how to tie knots. Click on the name of the knot or the picture of the knot that you would like to learn how to tie and watch the video. Don't forget to have a rope handy so you can practice tying the knots.
Bowline - "The bowline is a very secure knot that won't slip, regardless of the load applied. It is commonly used by mountain climbers to tie their climbing ropes around their waists. Use this knot when-ever you want to put a non-slip loop on the end of a line." (Jacobson, 1999)
Clove Hitch - The clove hitch is used to start lashings.
Sheet Bend - "The sheet bend is a very good knot for tying together two ropes of the same or different diameters." (Boy Scout Handbook, 1998)
Square Knot - "The square knot is also known as a joining knot because it can join together two ropes and because it is the first knot Scouts learn when they join the BSA." (Boy Scout Handbook, 1998)
