As mentioned at the Court of Honor, NOW is the time to sign up for a 2009 Sabattis Trek. There are a total of 18 different Treks offered (Backpacking, Canoeing, Canoeing & Hiking). The most popular (and the one we did two years ago) was the Canoeing & Hiking trek which covered 52 mile over 5 days and 4 nights. All Treks are led by a Voyageur (guide) assigned by the Council, and accompanied by an adult leader (over 21 years) from our Troop. All Treks require a minimum of 6 participants. Canoeing and Canoeing & Hiking Treks are limited to 11 participants and Backpack Treks are limited to 7 participants. If there are enough scouts to meet the minimum, then we will register as a troop. If we do not meet the minimum, we need to combine with another troop to meet the minimum. The tentative dates for the Trek are the week of July 19-25, or August 2-8. Our regular Sabattis Camp week will be July 25 - August 1. Therefore scouts can either do the Trek, or do the Trek and Summer Camp at Sabattis as well. The cost of the Trek will vary based on the type of Trek (canoe or backpack) and the number of participants (since their is a fixed price per Trek regardless of the number of participants). The cost for a Backpack Trek will range between $400-$500 per scout. The cost of a Canoe or Canoe & Hike Trek will range between $300-$500 per scout. In addition there will likely be some cost for transporting the scouts back and forth to Sabattis (up to $100 depending on arrangements and cost of gas next year). Other: Scouts must be 13 years of age. Recommended that all scouts going on the Canoeing Trek have the Canoeing MB or equivalent experience. All scouts and adults on the Canoeing Trek must pass the BSA swim test Scouts need to only provide personal gear (backpack, sleeping bag, etc) Participants should be in good physical condition - especially backpackers Please let us know by October 15th if you are interested, and which of weeks is best for you (July19-25, or August 2-8). If there is enough interest to form a group, you will need to submit a $150 Non-refundable deposit by October 22nd. |
