BIO: Steve was born and raised in Mesquite, Texas and graduated from North Mesquite High School in 1981. He earned a football scholarship to East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma where he played strong safety. Upon graduation in 1985, he started the Allstate Insurance-Whitworth Agency located in Mesquite, which he still owns today. Steve served on the Mesquite City Council from 1993 to 2001. He took up the sport of duathlon in 1987 and raced until 2000. He married Julie in 2002 and they have one daughter, Avery. Steve also has a grown son, Lance, a graduate of Texas A&M University. As a 20-year Mesquite Rotarian, Steve founded the Mesquite Rodeo Bike Ride in 1995 and chaired the event for seven years. In 2004, he took up the sport of triathlon, mostly sprints, but soon became hooked on longer races, completing Buffalo Springs 70.3, Ironman Arizona and White Rock Marathon in 2008. Steve primarily races to stay fit, but enjoys competing and mostly completing races. |
