Why we are‎ > ‎

Independent Monastics

Description

This is a home for Independent Monastics of all stripes, especially folks in the Independent Catholic movement. We are often isolated, and scattered and without much support.

I am a Benedictine Oblate who is no longer affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. I am a priest/scholar attempting to live a life of prayer & contemplation. I identify my Spirituality as Benedictine in the Camaldolese tradition.

Right now there are three of us. Two of us are college Professors, and live in the same building but separately. The third is in Canada.

We are a post-denominational group.( I am from the RC tradition, another is from the Old Roman Catholic tradition, and the other from an Anglo-Catholic background.) I am interested in Buddhism and comparative religion; I also have a preference for the Tridentine Mass and Traditional Benedictine Office. But, I recognise this as only a mere preference.

We like to think we are part of the New Monasticism of the Emerging Church. We are inclusive and welcoming to all. If you would like to join us in this journey, you are very welcome to do so. Your spirituality need not be based on the Rule of St. Benedict.

We are a private association not affiliated with any Bishop or Church. Nor do we wish to be.However, if you do that is fine. You're welcome here.

In your first email, please explain why you would like to join this list.

Pax et bonum,
Dom Anselm, OSB
