Introduction

The Dominicans or the Order of Preachers is a Catholic Religious Order founded by St. Dominic in 1216 for preaching and the salvation of souls. Its members are Christian faithful who under the action of the Holy Spirit follow Christ closely by professing the evangelical counsels of obedience, poverty and chastity.

Like the apostles, being of one mind and one heart in God, they live together in fraternal communities and they are totally dedicated to God and strive for the perfection of Charity in service to the Kingdom of God.

The Korean Dominican Home Page has been designed to present the Dominican Order or the Order of Preachers to the Korean public. Therefore even though main titles are written both in English and Korean, the page has been conceived and written in Korean. It offers the visitor a basic information about the Dominican Order: Spirituality, History, Saints, Documents, News, etc., as well as information about the Dominican Family working in South Korea. Special works such as the Rosary Fraternity, Students' Aquinas Fraternity, and Missions are also included.

In order to help those who might want to reflect on the Sunday's Celebration of the Word of God, this page contains a section on Preaching as well.

Finally, for those who might want to know more about us or about the Catholic Church, a selected Links section is included.

For the English public this English section with some basic information about St. Dominic and the Order is included as well. If you want to know more about us, you are welcome to contact us. Likewise, you might consult the Dominican International Home Page written in several languages : www.op.org and the Missionary Province of the Most Holy Rosary's Home Page, written both in English and Spanish : www.dominicos.org/hrosary/default.htm

May the Lord give you peace!

The Society of St Francis is an international religious community, within the Anglican communion, with members in many parts of the world. We seek to follow Christ in the way of St Francis of Assisi and St Clare of Assisi.

There are three different paths, or ‘Orders’ within the Society, paths which were founded by Francis himself in the thirteenth century, although our particular expression of the Franciscan life within the Anglican Communion goes back only to the early twentieth century.

The First Order consists of brothers (Society of St Francis - SSF) and sisters (Community of St Francis - CSF) who make vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, live together in community, pray together, and undertake active work of many kinds. There are SSF brothers in Australia, Brazil, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, the UK, and the USA; and CSF sisters in the UK, the USA, and South Korea. There are also two small new communities of brothers with whom we are in covenant, in Zimbabwe, and in South Korea.

The Second Order (Community of St Clare - OSC) consists of sisters who make the same vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, and live together in community, but whose work is focussed on prayer and contemplation, and on work within the convent. OSC sisters live in England; there is also a Poor Clare Solitary in covenant with us living in the USA.

The Third Order consists of women and men who commit themselves to live out their Franciscan vocation in the world. Their profession vow is fleshed out in an individual Rule of Life, to which they make an annual commitment. They live in their own homes, may be married or single, and continue to support themselves financially, while meeting regularly for mutual support in local groups.
