Flowers on the altar on in honor of Paul & Joyce Finke’s 45th Wedding Anniversary.  Paul & Joyce have given $4,500 to Trinity’s Endowment Fund in honor of their anniversary.

 

“All About Jonah” – This week and next week we will be looking at Jonah. The account of Jonah is a marvelous example of God’s concern for the unbelieving world, and how God uses an unwilling servant to bring his message to bear on the world. Join us in the gym following the Sunday service for Christian growth, fellowship, and snacks.

 

Thanksgiving Service – A Thanksgiving Communion Service will take place on Thursday, November 26th at 9 am.

 

Mid-Week Advent Services – This year’s Advent theme is titled “The Stories of Advent.” In this series we will be looking at the calling of Zechariah “Advent Silence”, the angels encounter with Elizabeth “Advent Expectation”, and Mary under “Advent Faith”. The first service with Bethlehem, Ferrin and Messiah in Carlyle will be held here on Wednesday, December 2nd at 7 pm. 

 

Dec. 2nd Advent Service – PTL provides refreshments for the Advent Service on Dec. 2nd. Please bring a dozen cookies or fruit to the kitchen prior to the service and enjoy the fellowship in the gym after the 7 pm service.

 

Tuesday Evening Bible Study & Tuesday morning Bible Study will start again in January.

 

Names for various offices and positions in the church – The nominating committee would like help in gathering names of individuals who are gifted to serve in a number of congregational positions for 2010. If you know of someone who you think would be a good fit in a certain position, please write down their name on the bulletin insert and place this in the offering plate either this week or next week. The nominating committee (Church Council) will meet again on Sunday, November 29th at 7:30 pm. The final Voters’ Meeting with the election of congregational officers will take place on Sunday, December 13th.

 

In connection with the church’s desire to reduce expenses we are asking the subscribers to the Lutheran Witness to pay for their subscriptions. The cost to the church as of right now is $975.00. We are asking the people who subscribe to the Lutheran Witness through the church to please make out a check for $15 and earmark it for the cost of the subscription. Please send this to the church office as soon as possible. Thanks.

 

Ladies, Our Ladies Aid Christmas Party will be Dec. 3rd at 6:30 pm at the IGA Annex in Carlyle. Cost is $8.00. Please make your reservations by November 23rd by calling Joyce Michael at 495-2684.

 

 

 

Willis Scholarship Fund – the $1,000 scholarship is available to any member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Hoffman for the year of graduation – 2009 – for High School, and will be awarded to the student with the highest cumulative grade point average (based on the student’s transcript) for all of high school. In the event of a tie, both students will receive the award. A student will receive the $1,000 scholarship award only for the first year of college, and only after providing evidence of full-time enrollment in a college curriculum. Full-time enrollment shall be considered at least 12 semester hours (or the equivalent thereof). If you would like to apply for the scholarship, please contact a member of Trinity’s Board of Education. You must apply by December 6th.

 

Woman’s Day of Renewal is coming up March 13th at Good Shepherd in Collinsville. Information is in the church office. Cost is $25.00 if postmarked by Dec. 31st - $30.00 if postmarked Jan 1 – Feb. 28th. After that it is $35.00. Main speaker is Mary Hilgendorf. Her presentation is lively, humorous and thought provoking with a sound Biblical message and foundation.

 

Thrivent Gift Giving. As of November 12, 2009 Thrivent has paid out 100% of the allotted matching funds for the year 2009. Thank you for your participation in this program. As you know it has been discontinued for next year. There is a new program starting in the spring. We will keep you informed as we get more details.

 

Life Night – the next High School Life Night is scheduled at Phil & Julie Rueter’s on Sunday, November 29th from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.

 

Hoffman Blood Drive nets 37 donors on November 16, 2009.

Valentine Dinner and Auction – please contact Jeremy Johnston (495-2335 or johnstonjewelers@att.net) if you can help with soliciting businesses for auction donations or wish to help in another way. Most businesses require several weeks to respond to our requests for donation. We need everyone’s help to have another great event.

 

We have registered 16 children to go to the National Youth Conference “We Believe” in New Orleans next July. We are excited about going and will be asking for your prayers as we prepare to go. You might think that July is long way away, but there is a LOT to do to prepare.  

 

For the month of November, Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School will be sponsoring a food drive. Please place non-perishable food items in the box located in the narthex. All items will be donated to the Centralia Community Benevolence Society. Thank you for helping us help others in our community!

H1N1 Immunizations – Nov. 30th from 1:30 – 6:00 pm. The Clinton County Health Dept. has been scheduled to come and administer the H1N1 Vaccine to the students of our school as well as any others in the community that are in the following priority groups as designated by the CDC.        

·         Children and young adults ages 6 months through 24 years

·         Pregnant women

·         People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age

·         Health care and emergency medical services workers

·         People ages 25 through 64 years who have certain health conditions such as HIV, Diabetes or heart or lung disease.

There will be no cost to you for the vaccine.

 

Church Work Careers (vocations) – Do you or someone you know have an interest to serve the church on a full time basis as a Pastor, Teacher, Director of Christian Education, Deaconess or Director of Parish music? If so please consider setting up an appointment with a representative from either Concordia University in Chicago or Concordia Seminary in St. Louis on Sunday, Nov. 22nd at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman. National Lutheran Choir Christmas Festival returns to St. Louis. Sat., Dec. 19, for two performances by the National Lutheran Choir: 4:00 pm & 7:30 pm at Christ Church Cathedral, 1210 Locust St., St. Louis.
