MDF moulding is a wood-based composite material that uses wood fibres with a synthetic resin. When it's put under heat and pressure it turns into a dent-resistant durable panel. This environmentally safe product requires less preparation and comes already primed.

Another advantage to MDF moulding over natural wood is the fact that it is an engineered product which means all of the pieces will be very consistent in size and shape, making it easier and faster to install. Also, MDF doesn't split when cutting and it's very resistant to warping.                             
Another way you can save is by adding onto your already existing mouldings with base board extensions and trim add-ons. This method involves the addition of smaller trims (being attached to your existing trim), by doing this you can avoid the cost and mess of removing existing materials. Adding on creates the upgraded look at the lowest cost.
