Welcome to the 2009/2010 school year

 at Wheatland High School!

Education has many purposes that have personal and global implications.  The main purposes of education are to increase communication and critical thinking skills, to learn about other cultures and to develop a sense of social responsibility. The partnership of these principles serves the greater good of not only our society but also our entire world.  Education should develop communication skills to enable students to portray their thoughts in a clear and sophisticated manner.  Students need to increase their critical thinking skills in order to be able to decipher truth from fiction for themselves. Educating students about different cultures provides them with perspectives that they couldn’t experience in their local neighborhood. Empowering students with knowledge alone isn’t enough. Education should instill virtues that develop a sense of social responsibility. The function of education is extensive.

My position in your child’s education is to give them opportunities to develop problem solving skills that will heighten their critical thinking skills. Mathematics is an exacting science which has a language of its own. Your child will learn this language and be able to communicate precisely what he/she means in mathematical terms.

In Algebra 2, we will focus on factoring, solving equations, solving problems involving quadratics, radicals, exponential and logarithmic functions.

In Pre-Calculus, we will explore trigonometric functions, heightening Algebra skills and analyzing polynomials.

In Calculus, we explore rate of changes with derivates and how to find the area of curved surfaces with integrals.
