About the Breed
The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a herding dog originally used in the high country of Wales, known as Cardiganshire, to herd cattle and other livestock. Herding instincts are still quite strong in the breed. Herding trials/events are a rewarding and exciting way to demonstrate these natural instincts.

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a moderately active, small to medium-sized dog. They are often referred to as "a lot of dog in a small package" because they are unaware of their small size and act like a much bigger dog. The ideal overall appearance is a sturdy, long-bodied, big-eared, fox-tailed, happy-to-be-me kind of dog. The average range of size for a male is 30-40 pounds and average size for a female is 25-35 pounds. For both sexes, height is 10 1/2" to 12 1/2" and length is 36" to 43" from nose to tail tip. Proportion and balance together are the emphasis. Refer to the AKC standard for the Cardigan Welsh Corgi for more information.

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is an excellent companion that requires a great amount of love and attention. The family is their flock and they demand to be with them at all possible times. The breed's easy-going, patient, and loving personality makes them an excellent choice for children. They are very playful and will easily become your most devoted friend!
