Friday January 22,2010  8:00pm CHAVC vs CYBVC-1 3-0 (25-13 25-11 25-13)
The Chapel Hill boys won the seasons first TBVL match 3 sets to 0 in dominant fashion.  There must be something in the Chapel Hill water, because they are growing some tall boys out that way.  It looked to me like the 10 member team only had two boys under 6' tall...and one is around 6'7".  Great setting by young Yize Dong and blocking and attacking by Alex Draughan behind solid serving and passing made for an easy night for Chapel Hill.  Cary boys produced good serving runs by Nick Hawk and solid setting by both Lucas Siegel and Andrew McMurray. Thanks to everyone that helped make our first match a success. Special thanks to Dan Pickett for provided excellent Refereeing.

Sunday February 7,2010  2:30pm  FVAA vs CHAVC  1-3 (31-29 16-25 21-25 16-25)

The Chapel Hill Warriors got their second win of the season by defeating the Spartans of Fuquay-Varina, 3 sets to 1.  The match began very competitively with long rallies and good plays from both teams.  The Spartans had good sets from Brendan Smith and hits from Shane Lympany, Tyler Malpass and Brendan Smith.  The Warriors, however, played a strong match with consistent serves by Eric Lang, Thomas Rasmussen and Kyle Pinheiro, precise spikes by Adam Perry, strong blocking by Caleb Newell, and strategic sets from Yize Dong, which led to their victory.  A big thanks to Kevin Wendelboe for officiating the match.  Check video posting of this match at www.chavc.net under the Warriors' team webpage. Friday February 19,2010  8:00pm CHAVC vs CYBVC-2  3-1  (25-12, 25-19, 24-26, 25-16)
The Chapel Hill boys keep their record perfect as they win 3-1 over the CYBVC-2 boys. CHAVC ball control, top notch setting by Yize Dong and a solid wall of blocking Alex Draughan had the CHAVC boys on cruise control for the first two sets.  Cary boys started to solve some issues and Aidan Carroll starting the third set with a big serving run as the Cary team jumped out to a big lead in set three only to have Eric Lang to serve six straight at 24-18 to tie it at 24.   CYBVC-2 used tough defense and hustle to close the set out at 26-24.  CHAVC regrouped and finished off the match in set #4.    Special thanks to Charlie Yang for provided excellent Refereeing services.

Sunday February 21,2010  3:00pm  CYBVC-1 vs FVAA  3-2  (23-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-20, 15-10)
The CYBVC-1 team earned an exciting 5-set victory against the host FVAA Spartans.  Solid serving by Chris Hawk and Amit Katyayan, along with accurate setting by Andrew McMurray and Aidan Carroll, lead the CYBVC-1 team.  The Spartans hung strong with good hitting from Shane and Aaron Lympany, tough serving by Ryan Baker, and solid setting by Brendan Smith.  Our thanks to Dan Pickett and Adria Fecteau for R1 and R2 reffing, and to all those who served as line judges and scorekeepers.

Sunday March 7,2010  2:30pm CYBVC-1 vs CHAVC  1-3 (25-22, 14-25, 21-25, 13-25)

The Chapel Hill Warriors pulled out another victory, defeating CYBVC-1 3 sets to 1.  The first game was very competitive with good hits by Chris Hawk and Aidan Carroll, setting by Andrew McMurray, serves from Amit Katyayan and blocking by several Cary players.  CYBVC-1 closed the first game 25 – 22.  The second game was also competitive but the Warriors played more consistently and closed the game with strong hits from Thomas Rasmussen, Kyle Pinheiro and Alex Draughan, and all around good play by Andrew Dowdy.  The Warriors went on to win the next two games and closed the match 3-1.  A big thanks to Dan Pickett for officiating the match.

Friday March 12,2010   8:00pm CYBVC-2 vs CYBVC-1 3-2 (25-14, 25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 15-13)
The early surprise was a loud and startling malfunction during the raising of the basketball backboards. What followed should have been no surprise. As usual, CYBVC-1 and CYBVC-2 needed all five sets to decide a  winner. CYBVC-2 squeaked out the victory 25-14, 25-22, 23-25, 22-25,  and 15-13.  CYBVC-2  was led by heavy-hitting Joseph Lucido, consistent passing from the entire team, setting from Aidan Carroll. and all around play of Amit Katyayan (including serving runs of 3, 4, 4, and 3 points).  To come back from down two sets, CYBVC-1 showed tremendous determination under the leadership of Chris Hawk, the setting and passing of Lucas Seigel and Andrew McMurray, and good blocking from Richard Zheng, Teny Joseph, Chris Hawk, and Andrew McMurray. Thanks to Brian Jones (1st Referee), Jim Hawk (2nd Referee), Ariana Lucido (scorekeeper), Taylor Siegel (libero tracker and scoreboard operator), and Fred Rasmussen and Richard Guzan (line judges). Special thanks to our missed-serve tracker, Matt Hawk; he shouldn't have had to work that hard!

Sunday March 14,2010   3:00pm  CYBVC-2 vs FVAA  0-3 (22-25, 19-25, 18-25)
The FVAA Spartans gained their first match victory, 3-0, behind a balanced, all-around team effort against CYBVC-2.  Solid passing by Will Asciutto and Brendan Smith, heavy hitting from Shane and Aaron Lympany, strong blocking from Tyler Malpass, relentless defense from DaQuan Mabry, and on-target setting by young Gannon Nawojczyk carried the Spartans to victory.  The CYBVC-2 boys were lead by strong serving and setting from Aidan Carroll, crushing hits from Joseph Lucido, and some crafty serving by Amit Katyayan.  Our thanks to Abby Moody and Ariana Lucido for R1 and R2 reffing, and to all those who served as line judges and scorekeepers.

Friday March 26,2010  8:00pm FVAA vs CYBVC-2 3-2 (25-23, 16-25, 27-25, 25-18)
A very tight and well played match between two very solid teams.  Both teams displayed consistent setting and attacks, good blocking and hustle.  Aidan Carroll and young Gannon Nawojczyk supplied both teams attackers with plenty to spike.  Shane Lympany and Joseph Lucido led their teams in kills with plenty of support in this category from Aaron Lympany, Amit Katyayan and Tyler Green.  In the end, the third match was the breaking point.  Cary had two opportunities to serve with game point on the line and couldn't convert.  With the set tied at 25, DaQuan Mabry was able to hold together to serve two winning points to give the Spartans the set 27-15. Big time thanks to the entire Officiating crew of Ariana Lucido, Jim Hawk, Nick Hawk, Andrew McMurray and Teny Joseph.

Sunday April 11,2010  3:00pm  CHAVC vs FVAA  3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-13, 25-19)
The Chapel Hill Warriors clinched 1st place for the regular season TBVL league play with a 3-1 victory over the FVAA Spartans.  Everything seemed to be clicking for the Warriors with solid passing and consistent serving by everyone.  Yize Dong supplied the Warriors with plenty of "dead on" sets while Alex Draughan and Thomas Rasmussen were more than happy to put them away for the kill.  Solid team blocking by the Warriors frustrated the Spartans attack and crafty serving by Kyle Pinheiro         kept the Spartans on their heels.  In the second set, the Spartans were able to mount an attack led by Shane Lympany, Brendan Smith, DaQuan Mabry and two strong serving runs by Aaron Lympany.  The Warriors came back with a dominating victory in set three.  However, even though the Spartans fell behind early in the fourth set, they never gave up and fought back to come within 2 before the Warriors pulled away for the match win.  Our thanks to the officiating team of Brian Jones and Adria Fecteau.

Sunday April 18,2010  3:00pm CYBVC-2 vs CHAVC  2-3 (15-25, 9-25, 25-23, 25-20, 13-15)
The Chapel Hill Warriors completed the regular season undefeated after a hard fought match against CYBVC-2. The Warriors won the first two games in dominant fashion with all around good play by all players, however Cary was not ready to let the match end without a fight. CYBVC-2 put together a great run in the next two games led by powerful jump serves from Aidan Carroll, hits from Joseph Lucido and Chris Hawk, great defense plays by Jake Frey and Cole Harris, as well as great ball control by all players. The final set was very competitive and the Warriors were only able to take the lead at the end of the game after it was tied 11-11. The Warriors closed the final game 15-13. Congratulations to the Warriors for a great regular season. A big thanks to Steve Truckenbrod, Jim Halk, and Julia Mainwaring for helping with the scorekeeping and officiating the match.

Friday April 23,2010   8:00pm FVAA vs CYBVC-1  3-0 (25-14 , 25-12 , 25-13 )
The FVAA Spartans dominated in match victory, 3-0, behind a balanced, all-around team effort.  The Spartans out blocked and served the CYBVC-1 team.  Shane Lympany's play in the middle made the day miserable for the Cary YMCA team.  An 11 point service run by Tyler Malpass opened a large lead in the first set.  A big thanks to Steve Truckenbrod and all the other officiating help.

Friday April 30,2010   8:00pm CYBVC-1 vs CYBVC-2 0-3 (17-25 , 17-25 , 31-29 )
The CYBVC-2 team avenged it's earlier season loss to CYBVC-1 team.  Both teams waited until set #3 to get excited that extended the match into overtime.  Both teams struggled at the service line, but both teams played with control and hustle once a serve was put in play.   Patrick Guzan played the match of his life passing and digging as the Libero for C-1.  C-2 setting and attack combination of Aidan Carroll with Amit Katyayan, Joseph Lucido and Andrew Barrier highlighted the evening.  Another big thumbs up to Steve Truckenbrod for the Officiating work.
