Pedaling to Health Initiative
Triangle Velo recognizes the danger of rising obesity rates throughout the American population.  Startling statistics related to the obesity epidemic are below.  To that end, we are donating proceeds from the inaugural NObesity Gran Fondo to help support alternative activities clubs at the host location, Kestrel Heights Charter School.  These clubs will make it possible for more schoolchildren to become and remain active and healthy.

U.S. obesity rate projected to reach 50% by 2030 if current trends continue
2.8 million global cancers annually linked to diet, body weight, activity level
Decrease of just 1% of BMI would avoid:
2 to 2.4 million diabetes cases
1.4-1.7 million cases of heart disease and stroke
    73,000-127,000 cancer cases
