Eastern Piedmont Regional VOAD

VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) is a network of independent associations at the national, state, and local levels who provide a forum where organizations share knowledge and resources through all phases of the disaster cycle in order to help survivors and their communities.
 
VOAD members include disaster-response organizations, human-services agencies, faith-based organizations, animal-rescue agencies, civic clubs, and others.
 
Each Member organization maintains its own identity and autonomy and works with other VOAD members to improve capabalities.
 
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management recognizes the Virginia VOAD, which is comprised of five (5) fully-functioning regional VOAD organizations: Southeastern Virginia, Greater Williamsburg, Northern Virginia, Peninsula, and Rappahannock and two (2) regional organizations in initial phases of start-up.  The Eastern Piedmont Regional VOAD is one of these latter two.
 
The Virginia VOAD plays an essential role in the state's preparation and response to disaster.
Functions of VOAD:
  • Share information and practices about service delivery; identify gaps and duplication.
  • Develop better integrated plans and activities.
  • Coordinate government, non-profit, and civic organizational resources.
  • Create partnerships an agreements to assist in disaster more effectively.
  • Identify and enroll new non-profit, faith-based, and other community organization members and survey the roles or contributions they will make during disasters.
  • Train and prepare these organizations to effectively respond when needed.
  • Establish procedures and processes for notification and collaboration between emergency and member organizations and between member organizations.
