TRB Hazmat Transportation Committee members and friends,

The Annual Meeting is fast approaching and I wanted to make sure everyone had the latest information to assist them in planning their attendance for the week.

Here are the highlights:

  • These are the AT040-sponsored sessions and events (all are at the Omni Shoreham):

o   North American Border Issues and Trends – Monday, 1/24, 1:30 – 3:15 pm

o   Perceived Risks and Transportation of Hazardous Materials – Tuesday, 1/25, 10:15 – 12 noon

o   Transportation of Hazardous Materials Committee Meeting – Tuesday, 1/25, 1:30 – 5:30 pm

o   Hazardous Materials Transportation Research (Poster Session) – Tuesday, 1/25, 7:30 – 9:30 pm

o   More details about these sessions are available from the Interactive Program (put AT040 in the Committee Search field at the bottom of the form)

  • Some other sessions sponsored by freight and rail committees are included in the attached matrix provided by Ann Purdue, our new staff officer.
  • No audio/video conferencing will be available for the committee meeting (that is only available for the mid-year meetings).

In addition to the HMCRP-related paper being presented at the poster session, we plan to have some HMCRP project updates during the committee meeting (I’ll be coordinating with the PIs on those). As usual, we will also have discussions about research needs and hear regulatory updates and updates about sponsored research from our federal agency members/liaisons and others in attendance. This is also a year for membership rotation. In addition, you will get to meet Ann Purdue, our new TRB staff officer, who has already been doing quite a bit to ensure a successful meeting in January!

If you have some ideas for agenda topics, please forward them to me as soon as possible. I want to ensure that the committee is focused on the items that you are all interested in, so speak up!

We have a great program lined up and I look forward to seeing all of you in January!

Mark

Chair, TRB Hazardous Materials Transportation Committee
