Transportation Research Board
Committee on Low-Volume Roads (AFB30)
Scope: This committee is concerned with all aspects of low-volume roads including planning, design, construction, safety, maintenance, operations, environmental and social issues.
As Chair, I would like to welcome members and friends to the TRB Committee on Low Volume Roads. We are a unique committee in that our topic of interest, Low Volume Roads transcends language, culture, topography, climate and politics. Due to their basic necessity, Low Volume Roads tend to drive innovation in design, material use, maintenance, and social development.
Those of you who specialize in low volume roads are the professionals who are connected to the basic core of humanity. You have a passion for the work, because you are the direct connection to those who depend upon low volume roads for life’s many needs. You devote your lives to risk-based engineering, finance, planning, and social progress that support human connections, mobility, and development. This, to me, is the core value and essence of the work that you do.
I invite, and challenge all of you to step forward in this committee and share the leadership, initiatives and energy that you can bring to the table. Please feel free to contact me at anytime with issues, research proposals or ideas for improving the service of this committee. Without you and your dedication, this work would not be possible.
