This is an account of a cycling trip across England from West to East by Peter Seaman and John McLeod in 4 days. We started at Southport Tuesday June 5th 2007 and arrived at Hornsea on Friday June 8th 2007.
GPS trail of our precise route
You need to install the free version of Google Earth to view this data. If it is not installed please visit http://earth.google.com. After installation you can click here to open Google Earth and view the trail.
In Google Earth you can then scroll and zoom to the track as recorded by the GPS.
Click the + by LINKTP~2.KML in the Places Window to reveal the following details:
Click the + by Paths in the Places window to open up the path segments, select one (such as Southport to Liverpool) and then click the "Play Tour" button. This will animate the trip as if following by a helicopter 600 feet above the ground. If your internet connection is not exceedingly fast you may need to click the "break" button for a few seconds in order to give the system time to load the aerial photography. In some places you will see 180 degree turns - these are our navigation mistakes (28 in all).
TPT waypoints are shown as yellow pins. These are the points I pre-entered into the GPS and used to navigate. However, they are not in order.
Trackpoints will reveal an adustable time bar and will show the precise date/time (in GMT) of each of the numerous points of the route recorded by the GPS. Because these tend to clutter the map they are turned off by default. To see the trackpoints, click the box to the left of Trackpoints.
Mistakes are where we did 180 degree turns and are shown with a red cross.
