Speaker Information

Meetings begin at 1 PM, starting with your presentation followed by a professional discussion about the paper.

One goal of the Transcriptomics Journal Club is to keep the meetings as informal as possible and to engender lively discussion. While this is a challenge with participants with diverse research interests and backgrounds, a few simple guidelines should help:
  • Even though the audience is interested in Transcriptomics and RNA, it doesn't mean they have any background in the area of the paper you discuss. Please give some background and tell us how the work fits into the larger picture.
  • Your talk should not be longer than 30-40 minutes plus 20-30 minutes of discussion. We try not to go over the limit of one hour for the whole meeting. You will probably get lots of questions and the discussion is as important as the presentation--that is where you can get ideas and feedback--so reserving a minimum of 20 minutes for discussion is critical.
  • Prepare your presentation in Power Point. Everyone benefits when seeing the data and more dynamic discussions are possible. And we can provide the slides afterwards on the page.
  • If, for unforseen reasons, you need to cancel or change, PLEASE contact David or Steve immediately. Hopefully we can get an alternate speaker. And PLEASE, don't leave this to the last minute; it simply is not fair to others coming from MPI, IZI or other institutes.
