Accessibility and safe space

Accessibility

Spontaneous Celebrations (our venue) has recently installed a permanent accessible ramp which leads from the sidewalk level to our performance space. If you plan to enter this way, please email us ahead of time so we can have someone at the side door, to let you in.  (We don't always have enough staff to staff both doors, especially after the event has begun, and it gets cold if we just leave it open.) We realize this is not ideal but we hope you'll work with us, with what we have.

If you have any questions, need any kind of accommodations, or have suggestions, please contact us at:

At Transcriptions, we strive to be a truly inclusive space, so, please, help us by communicating your needs.  We really appreciate it.

Safe space

We intend to make Transcriptions a safe space for everyone.

Trans-spectrum, gender-variant, gender-non-conforming, queer, LGBT
Transcriptions is intended as a safe space for gender-non-conforming and trans-spectrum people. This means that we are accepting and affirming of people regardless of their gender identity and expression.  To ensure that the space remains safe for everyone, we ask that people who come to Transcriptions refrain from making assumptions about anyone else's gender identity or pronoun preference, based on their clothes or appearance.  This includes people who are visibly transgender, crossdressing, or gender-non-conforming; please do not infer that a visibly trans/etc person prefers a certain pronoun, based on their clothes or appearance.  It's a good idea to ask a person what pronouns they prefer.

Other groups
Transcriptions is also intended as a safe space for members of minority and/or oppressed communities, including people with disabilities, people of color, people with low income, elders, autistic people, and any other group that belongs on this list.

Trauma warnings
At Transcriptions, we ask that performers note on the sign-up sheet whether their performances contain trauma (also called "triggers"), such as graphic descriptions of violence or sexual activity. We arrange for all such performances to occur during a certain section of the evening, to give people who do not wish to hear such material a chance to vacate the space during it. We do this to help make Transcriptions as inclusive of a space as possible, so that people are able to participate in Transcriptions to the fullest of their individual ability.

Feedback
We want to hear about your experiences, negative and positive.  And we want your suggestions on how to improve Transcriptions as a safe space.  Please contact us with your thoughts, at:
