Animal Behavior Services

Animal Behavior Services aims at solving behavior problems by teaching pet owners how to communicate naturally with their pets through leadership, body language, and positive reinforcement.

A typical canine obedience class consists of meeting in a building unfamiliar to your dog, which makes him stressed right from the start.  And to top it off, there are a bunch of strange humans and other dogs all over the place!  This can be very overwhelming to the average canine, and frustrating for you as you try to work with your very distracted dog.  Just remember, class is meant to instruct you on how to teach your dog at home! Some progress will be made in class, but the "miracles" happen through consistent training at home.

A dog learns new commands best in an environment with minimal distractions.  Distractions are added later in the training process as your dog's success rate increases.  Success makes your dognmore eager to learn and much easier to teach, just like people.  It also means less frustration for you, as the owner.

Sometimes, private lessons are needed, and best done in your home.  At home, I am able to assess and assists in solving any behavioral problems your dog may have such as jumping, digging, barking, stealing food, and bolting out the door at every opportunity.  That’s a lot more one-on-one time with your obedience instructor than you’d ever get in a group class setting!

Although training dogs is my passion, Animal Behavior Services also offers behavior consultations for cat and bird owners.
