Trafalgar Buses
Liverpool's premier bus service.
Trafalgar Buses was formed in 2005 with a fleet operating school buses in the local area and two bus services, these being the 20 and 86. The initial fleet was made up of just Leyland Titans, most of which came locally from Stagecoach Merseyside however there were a small number of Reading examples. The takeover of Red Squirrel who were based in the Newcastle area brought in some airport work and coach work. All the remaining Stagecoach Merseyside Titans were purchased bringing the number of this type close to 50. As a result the 20 and 86 were upgraded in frequency with the 20 operating every 15 minutes and the 86 every 5 minutes while new routes were added, these consisted of the 55, 17D and the 432. Extra school services were added which meant most of the fleet was hard at work. The takeover of neighbouring Merseyline Travel brought in more Titans and some Leyland Lynxes into the fleet along with services 20, which was renumbered 20E, 10B and 35, the latter two which had their frequencies upgraded using some of the spare Titans from the main fleet. The coaching side of the company quickly settled on Bova Futuras as the standard coach of choice. Five were purchased new at the end of 2006 and entered service in early 2007. 2007 saw little change other than the first Volvo Olympians entering the fleet, these were four former Airbus Alexander Royale bodied variants. 2008 saw 20 Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s enter the fleet, these were LWB single door types, this moved some Titans into reserve and new school roles. As 2009 drew in a number of Leyland Titans went for refurbishment to allow them to operate for many years to come, this lasted for the whole year. 2009 also saw the first Alexander ALX400s enter the fleet, these being T-KPU examples which were purchased from Ensign having last been in use with East London Bus Group, these were left in their dual door layout. |
