"Speech-Language Impairment" means a communication disorder such as stuttering, impaired articulation, a language impairment, or a voice impairment that adversely affects a child's educational performance. Students may demonstrate one or any combination of the four components listed below: Articulation: The way we say our speech sounds. Types of misarticulations include omissions, substitutions, and distortions. Language: Language involves many things. It includes vocabulary, syntax, and listening skills. Fluency: The flow or rhythm of our speech. Voice: A voice disorder is an abmormal production of pitch, loudness, and quality.
