Garden Visits Sunday May 31st @ 3pm Dr Gavin Haig will be giving us a guided tour of Spillifords Wildlife Garden near Tiverton. Admission+ tea is £5.00, This is a 4 acre specialist wildlife garden leading down to the river Exe, with ponds and marsh areas. We hope to see nesting birds, and butterflies as well as wild flowers. Stout shoes needed. We shall leave New St Car Park at 1.45pm. This is a self drive outing, but we like to take full cars so there is always space for passengers. For catering purposes at Spillifords, would you let me know if you are planning to come. For June we hope to visit to Wild Side. More details at next month’s meeting Sally Ramsden
Future Speakers
June 2nd Jo Hynes from Cherrubear will be sharing her experiences of owning a national collection (outdoor cyclamen) and of opening her garden for the NGS (Yellow Book) scheme
July: picking up the opportunity from our RHS Affiliation we have arranged a special visit to Rosemoor. Starting at 6pm David Squire will give us a guided tour of the Foliage Garden. (he talked to us last year on Grasses) The plants should look good in the evening light. The rose gardens will also be at their best. Torrington in Bloom You may have seen Cherry Hammon’s article in the Crier, but if you haven’t, and you live in Torrington, her message is to, and I quote “gird up your loins and tidy your front gardens, hoist up your hanging baskets and plant up your window boxes”. Please take note! We are pleased to have 2 members of the Torrington in Bloom Committee as members of the Society: Cherry Hammon and Nigel Stark. Nigel’s plant display is always brilliant and it is no coincidence that a certain pub’s hanging baskets do so well, what with Bill Cleave living across the road!! We hope to put together a band of weeders, once “ownership” of flower beds has been clarified with Devon & Torridge.
