Olympic Torch Relay

School District 69 Student Art Project
Students of Bowser Elementary, in collaboration with their teachers, volunteers of the Parent Advisory Committee and a well-known resident Bowser artist, Elissa Anthony www.monelissastudio.ca , will create a multi-media permanent art fixture, celebrating the community and the Olympic spirit.  Focus will be on developing students’ understanding of various Olympic sports, celebrating our link with the natural beauty of the area, and enhancing national pride.  This art piece will be unveiled during the Torch Relay’s “break time” at Bowser Elementary School   (Nov. 2, 8:23 a.m. to 8:50 a.m.) and will be displayed in various business venues following this unveiling.  Photographic documentation of the development and completion of this project will also accompany its display, and will be featured in local written publications.

Lighthouse Country children  (age 7 -12) are invited to create
Stories about the Olympic Mascots -  Miga, Quatchi and Sumi
Story suggestions are:
What would mascots do in your community
How do the mascots values reflect the people in your community
What kind of adventures would they have in our town

The first place winner will have their story published in the Beacon, December issue.
Stuffed versions and book of the Olympic mascots will be awarded for additional prizes
(donated by the Magnolia Court businesses)
