Mental Advice

Improve comfort with formal facts
I have a strong tendency towards general trends and tendencies and intuitions. However in an Orange-dominant scientific community, I need to be able to back up your assertions with concrete examples, facts, statistics. This is a useful skill to practice; it supplements and strengthens my reasoning ability.

Quickly memorizing a route
Sometimes it's useful to get familiar with a route really fast, if you are going to travel it repeatedly. Count the number of turns the route takes. Note something special about each turn or about each section. The ordering will help your mind attach significance and order to the landmarks of the route more quickly.

Balance SR and LR
In analyzing problems and evaluating solutions, keep a long-run and a short-run perspective, either simultaneously or alternating. Don't let the urgent crowd out the important.

New paradigms don't come packaged
They come in splintered bits and pieces. If you feel like your way of looking at the world has some shortcomings, keep an eye out for those bits and pieces that make your picture more complete, more symmetrical, because the pieces are out there and they will come to you with if you give them time and active patience.
