Story

After toasting my beloved 258 monster 6 I decided it was time to move to a V8.  My TF999 was freshly rebuilt with goodies and I felt I was ready to take on such a project...had done motor replacements and because it was AMC all the way thru I figured would be easy.  The swap itself was but the rest of it was a huge PITA...the project was delayed by almost 9 months for one thing or another but in the end I came out on top.

The motor was picked up from a 1985 Grand Wagoneer off of eBay for $300...delivered.

I was able to snag a steel tank 3-core HD radiator for a Wagoneer for about $110 shipped to my door...the radiator came in 3 days in NEW condition - this apparently was around when the Govt mandated plastic core crap went through.

M.O.R.E. motor mounts were had for FREE.  They were ordered from 4WD Hardware and my card was never charged.  I called to check on this using the order number found on the packing slip and the order could not be found in their system.  I was told 'Merry Christmas'.  That was in their words and it was in the spring LOL.  This was after waiting for about a month on OEM-reman V8 motor mounts.  At the time they were back-ordered indefinitely, everywhere.

This was after a buddy and I gave a shot building motor mounts and we were very close.  We could get each side perfect, individually but not both sides at the same time...at least with one side I could get the Jeep in and out of the bay at my other buddy's shop...so it was left as such with a ratchet strap providing extra support until I could get mounts.

So with all of those parts purchased and the motor running in its existing state I drove it around a little bit open headers.  About a month later when I had the time another buddy and I literally threw an exhaust together with dual Cherry Bomb Turbos...sounded good other than the bad exhaust leak at the manifolds haha.

It wasn't until almost 6 months later after getting completely settled into the house, new job, and my wife and I expecting our 1st child, Grace that I started to work on her again...and built it up a bit using the parts listed above.  The parts were collected over about a year or so time frame.  It wasn't until I became unemployed due to the economy I started bolting them on...had the time but not the money at that point but luckily with shelves full-o-parts I was able to get her up and running again.

I was surprised it ran as well as it did...if not at all because of a bunch of really stupid issues (ie cracked distributor shaft, badly chewed plug wires, fouled plugs, etc).

Now she is pretty darn healthy, runs great, and doesn't get too bad of an MPG for her age or power.
