The old 1969 Grand banks! 

 


It is an on going project but worth the effort!

Here is some of the progression on our project. We started out to repack the hull and ended up doing a full cold molding process, removing the old fuel tanks and water tanks. We then pulled out the gen, re-wired and worked the unit over. Removed the old teak decks and sistered any structural part that showed stress. I have used all the material on this site. The insignia paint to the epoxies, fiberglass and fairing compounds. There have been no problems at all. The performance has improved considerably. We cruise the same speed at a 1000 rpms less now. We have twin 120 ford leman diesel engine. The hull is bullet proof. I don't take on any water any more and I do not have to worry about worms or being pulled at a yard.

 I used 100 sheets of 4mm ply wood cut in 3" to 4" wide strips and 155 gallons of epoxy. When I hulled the boat before the cold molding process her weight was 39700 pounds after the cold molded process she was just under 30K pounds when I put it back in the water. Now that is a lot of water weight loss!!

The painting process useing insignia paint.  If you want email me about an additive for the bottom paint I will have this on the site in about week. I have had this on for 17 months and have very little growth. This really works and it is enviromentally friendly. 

 

 

                                          

 

 These three photos are completed decks with glass beads for a non skip surface. I am realy happy the way the decks  turned out! They almost look factory. There were 100 screws through the old decks which leaked. I epoxied the 1" base on the rail supports so that no screws will go through the deck!

 

              

These three photos are the insigina varnish ( Clear Coat) for teak. This works extreamly well, it is about 2 years old and still like the day I put it on. They will stand behind their product for 4-years!!! Also you can see that the paint has the same gloss that it was when I applied the paint. I have never buffed this paint and it will retain the same gloss for over 10 years. Not only that I had some runs that I sanded and buffed out as well. Try any other paint that will do this!!
