| One thing I have learned ,or my children have taught me, is giving care through love and understanding is what gives them wings. To provide safety while they learn and explore helps them have and independant spirit with trust within themselves. The abililty to go out, make mistakes, learn from them and have a safe place to fall. I dont control my children, I guide them. And most of the time they appreciate that and look to me for advise. Giving them ideas or options. Maybe give scenerios on events and what might happen and how they can deal with them in different ways. Many times my teens have come to me with questions and advise on things I never would have gone to my mom for, but to my friends. Im glad they trust me to do that and have to fear of coming to me. My goal is to give them a mind of their own to make good choices even when I am not around. Choices that are in their best interest and not to follow the crowd. Even though it doesnt always work out that way , we argue and the urge to be accepted by their peers outweighs their own ideas. I tried to teach my kids that they have many choices in life, but with every choice there is a consequence. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. And to take responsibility for the choices they make. Own their decisions and dont blame others if something didnt turn out like they expected. Eventually they will be adults, and I want them to be able to make good decisions. And that comes from learning. I am a mom to four girls. Two teenagers and two younger. My teens have a whole different set of choices then my younger ones. Which brings alot of thought and worrie on my part. When most of the time my teens think they are indestructable. As an example my 16 year old getting behind the wheel of a car and me saying for the umpteenth time " Wear your seat belt, check your tires, keep an eye on the gaiges and drive safe" and her response as she rolls her eyes at me, "Mom nothing is going to happen to me". But just the other day she called me and told me she saw an accident happen right in front of her. As she is telling me this I am thanking God it wasnt her under my breath, she is upset at seeing it. Luckily noone was hurt. Lesson learned. Accidents dont happen on purpose. And her seeing it for herself outweighed my constent nagging. One thing that gets me through the tough times with my kids is my faith that God has my back. He is working behind the scenes with a knowlegde and power that far outweighs mine. What it all comes down to is when my children are adults, if they have confidence in themselves, have faith in God, understand what life is about. In my eyes, I have done my job. To me being successful doesnt mean being rich or powerful. It means feeling good within yourself and being happy with what life has given you.
One thing that I have done just for me is to work with photography. It relaxes me and lets my creative side shine. whether it be family photos, family events, I love photography. I have been asked by family members to be the photographer for their weddings and I happily accepted. The whole experience in photos, especially digital photos has been wonderful!
A mothers ring is a beautiful keepsake full of wonderful memories of raising children. Even when they become adults, all the precious memories are wrapped around your finger! Someday though our teens turn into adults, most of the time quicker than we would like. No matter how much we remember the past we have to look towards the future and give are children a good start. |
