To Whom It May Concern

Tyler

What is it about darkness

That allows us to think clearly?

Allowing our minds to roam free

Over many different topics with abandon.

We are truly ourselves during the night.

The only things that even compare

Are fire and the sea, and then they

Are at their best at night.

Why is it that the greatest inner discoveries

Happen when there is none or little light?

What is it about night that brings such fear

When we are little,

Yet can also make us brave enough to face ourselves?

Why is it that the absence of light inhibits

Our physical activities?

Yet we need light to do them;

But we are not ourselves?

Light inhibits the mind, even as it assists the body.

Yet absence of light lets the mental and emotional

Exploration ensue yet no exploration

Of the outer world occurs?

Why is it that the eye needs light to see,

Yet the inner eye thrives on the lack of it?

Or is it not another eye, just the same eye turned inward?

Why is it two different kinds of seeing

Thrive in two opposite kinds o f environments?

Is it just the supreme silence that the lovely dark

Allows us to escape our everyday noise,

To focus on things more profound?

This is how I think,

That this is occurring at night’s brink,

But you can make your own links.
