Dr. T.K.Kundra graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1967 from Punjab Engg College Chandigarh. He took M.Tech in Design Engineering and PhD in the area of Vibration Engineering from IIT Delhi. His professional interests include Vibration Engineering Design, Finite Element Model Updating, Concurrent & Optimal design of Mechanical Systems and Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems including Micro Systems. He was formerly Head/ Chair Mechanical Engineering from 2004 to 2007 and continues to be in the department with teaching, design and research experience spread over 40 years. His experience includes teaching at AIT Bangkok and Addis Ababa University,  and studies at Loughborough University, Imperial College, Ohio State University, TU Darmstadt and several organizations such as Rolls Royce, GEC and Boeing. Dr Kundra has been consulted on several design projects by organizations such as Hero Motors, BHEL, Eicher, ONGC, NSTL, DRDO, British Council and delivered several special lectures to teaching and industry personnel. He is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow Inst of Engrs [India] and life member of Indian Society of Technical Eduation and has been a member of SEM [USA],  He is author/ co-author of over 85 technical papers, two books on Computer Aided Manufacturing and also a Co-Editor of the proceedings of INDO-US symposium on Emerging trends in vibration and noise engineering and the book on Optimum Dynamic Design. He has recently been awarded the honour of “Mechanical Engineer of Eminence”.

 

His mission in life is development of Wisdom of Strategies for his Profession as well as Life in general.

  • Expertise of finding/ advising Technology solutions by using strategies of Engineering Design & System Design including Concurrent Engg and CAE.
  • Structural dynamic modification, Laser Vibrometry, Modal testing skills & FE Model updating algorithms to control vibrations of mechanical equipment and improve their design like that of Automobiles, Machine tools etc.
  • Co-authored two books in the area of Vibration Engg/ Dynamic Design
  • Computerised Manufacturing technology including CADCAM equipment. Special training in NC /CNC/ FMS and Microprocessor applications in UK for more than a year. Co-authored two books in the area of CAM.

  • Administration and management involving 40 faculty members belonging to the areas of Thermal Engg, Design Engg, Production Engg and Industrial Engineering, 40 supporting staff, 25 labs, 400 UG students and 250 PG students.
  • Initiated setting up of a major Research facility of Micro -Manufacturing [bridge between Nano & Micro world] in the deptt. Deptt of Sc& Tech GOI sanctioned in Feb2007 Rs 45 million for the purpose.
  • Presented various research initiatives/ capabilities of the deptt to various visiting foreign delegations and explore possibilities of collaboration.
  • Advised the administration of IIT Delhi including liaison with Director and deputy Directors about the Infrastructure, Research and Personnel of the Deptt to effectively implement the vision and mission of the excellence of the Institute.
