TMNT 25th Anniversary "Shell-ebration"

In 2009, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will turn 25, marking a quarter century of evolving “Turtle Power.” The Turtles were first introduced to the public as a comic book series created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman in May 1984. From there they went on to become iconic figures for kids, tweens and teens of the eighties, nineties and today. This bodacious foursome (Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael) have grown into pop culture icons with no end to their pizza-loving, shell-kicking ways in sight.

To help “shell-ebrate” all of the TMNT’s accomplishments, Mirage Studios has partnered with 4Kids Entertainment (TMNT master licensing agent) and Peppercom (a strategic communications firm with an experiential marketing division) to plan a reunion for the original, now young adult, fans, families, and new generation of Turtle fans. Leading up to the 25th anniversary Shell-ebration, Peppercom, Mirage and 4Kids will execute an experiential campaign that has already kicked off with consumer, industry and brand buzz in 2008, followed by a fully integrated campaign in 2009 to help sustain the excitement of the Shell-ebration throughout the year.

The Shell-ebration will be made up of several major “Galabungas” (major party events scheduled for the East and West coast) to honor the loyal fans; a mobile TMNT “Party Wagon” tour; strategic promotional partnerships; an awesome online experience; and a pro-social campaign encouraging kids to improve their well-being and self-esteem built on the brand loyalty created by the Turtles’ rich history.

Galabungas:The Galabungas – or TMNT-style parties - will be marquee events during the Shell-ebration and will focus on the theme of “reunion,” bringing together the best of Turtle Power through the decades. The first Galabunga to be held in April in NYC with a Green-carpet party to kick things off.

Mobile Tour:The tour will visit 10+ cities across the country to spread the spirit of TMNT and help shell-ebrate the brand nationally. The tour is slated to kick-off in New York in early May and continue into the year. The TMNT Party Wagon will be outfitted to match the Turtle transport from the original TV series and toy-line. Some onsite activities at the stops will include a TMNT photo booth, interactive gaming, MY TMNT MEMORY video-log kiosks, kids games, martial arts demos, food (pizza, of course), as well as other fun activities that will be nostalgic for the teen and young adult fans, as well as generate excitement for the younger fans. And of course, the Galabungas will be major stops on the TMNT Party Wagon express.
