About TBC Media Program

It all started with a vision...

                                        "Open Space in the city"

                    "An open space within ourselves
that is, freeing oneself to express,
                                                join and develop with others."

                    "Open to others
that is, freeing oneself of prejudices
                                          and acceptance of diversity."

                    "Open to the Other
that is, answering to the call of the
                                          Spirit of God."

"An open space that extends beyond walls of
                                             structure, rules and beliefs."

"Thus, where sense of belonging evolves."

pelikula@titusbrandsma is a free monthly film screening with dialogue that features fine samples of world cinema. It is an offering of the Titus Brandsma Center (TBC) Media Program under the auspices of the Carmelites in the Philippines. This monthly event is aimed at giving a meaningful experience for film enthusiasts.

"Going to the cinema is like returning to the womb. You sit there in the darkness, still and meditative, waiting for life to appear on the screen."

~Federico Fellini

Vision:

An "open space" for dialogue, interaction and reflection through film.

Mission:

  • Create an atmosphere for open, critical analysis of films and facilitate reflection through dialogue.
  • Utilize film for education and formation.
  • Advocate acceptance and appreciation of cultural diversity through films.
  • Motivate film appreciation / promotion of film aesthetics.
  • Encourage quality works of independent filmmakers by screening them.

Activities
:
  • Monthly Film Viewings - held every Second or Third Saturday of every month. Themes are assigned for every screening so as the facilitator to direct the dialogue. Surveys are often conducted to give audience a chance to decide which films they want to watch.
  • Outreach Activities - this is a study endeavor of pelikula@titusbrandsma. Upon the invitation of schools and other institutions, the committee can hold a film dialogue outside Titus Brandsma Center.
  • Special Screenings - In cooperation with schools/universities/colleges, embassies or film outfits, special screenings can take place at Titus Brandsma Center provided with the proper documentation, agreement and arrangements.
