Tinstar Farm's AMJAR-Registered American Minature Jerseys
|
AMJAR-Registered American Miniature Jerseys are not bred-down versions of the full-size or standard American Miniature Jersey. They are a separate breed that originates on the Isle of Jersey, with proof of genealogy tracing back to the original breed on the Isle of Jersey (Foundation). As such, they are less prone to many of the health, longevity, and breeding problems associated with other Minature breeds that are bred-down versions of full-size breeds.
High-quality, registered American Miniature Jersey heifer calves start at $3,000. Pricing for individual animals depends on the size of parents and genealogy (Native Pure v. Foundation). De-horning, initial vaccinations, and registration/record of birth with AMJAR are all included in this price. The cost of all required vet/health certificates are also included in the purchase price.
We breed for long life (16-20 productive years), udder health, milk production, and overall breed conformance including excellent temperament, disease resistance, fertility, ease in calving, and good mothering. We also very carefully track the genealogy of our cows and use only extremely ethical and versatile breeding practices, in order to make it easier for our customers to "freshen" their cows.
We do not allow pick up or shipment of calves prior to 3 months of age in order to allow a natural weaning process and to maximize calf health.
Contact us at tinstarheritagefarm@hotmail.com, or call us at 801-638-7991 to be added to our waiting list. We require a signed purchase agreement and a non-refundable deposit of $500 to hold a place on our waiting list. As of April, 2012, we have limited space available for 2013 calves and are taking reservations for 2014 calves. A copy of our standard purchase agreement is located here.
If you require delivery of a heifer out-of-state, you will be required to arrange the logistics. We recommend Ziegler Transport. You will be responsible for all shipping costs, including insurance on your cow. Payment in full for the purchase price of the calf will be required prior to shipment of the heifer/cow. We will cover all of the costs related to the veterinary paperwork and required health certificates for transport across state lines.
We offer AMJA-registered semen for sale that is compatible with the heifers we sell. We can also refer our customers to other breeders with registered semen that will be compatible with heifers purchased from us. Semen straws range in price from $50-$100 per straw.
There is a difference between AMJA-registered Miniature Jerseys and Miniature Jerseys registered with other associations, such as the International Minature Cow Association (IMCA). You should research the various associations prior to making an investment in any registered miniature cow.

All of our American Miniature Jersey cows are registered with the American Miniature Jersey Association & Registry (AMJA&R). We own micro heifers (36" or smaller at the hip), and mini cows (38" at the hip). We are actively breeding our girls via an AI program using AMJAR-registered Native Pure & Foundation bulls. We NEVER cross-breed with other miniature cow breeds. Since American Miniature Jersey bloodlines are narrow in the U.S., we keep meticulous records for our girls and their offspring to ensure clean blood lines and quality breeding.
There are many compelling reasons to keep a family cow, and Miniature Jerseys can help modern families accomplish this because of their size, minimal space requirements, and excellent temperament. There are many arguments about the healthfulness of raw milk versus commercially-produced, pasteurized and homogenized milk. For us, the bottom line is that our family wants to be a part of raising every food item that we eat. This gives us control over the healthfulness of our food versus trusting our food to Agri-Business Corporations or the Federal Government. That does not mean that we do not follow all of the local zoning and federal rules, it just means that we choose to participate in creating our own food just like our ancestors did.
