event log:
2009-12-12: The optical drive doesn't want to read any CDs anymore, so it is probably broken.

2009-02-19: I bought a new hard drive, a Western Digital Scorpio Back Ed. 250 GB, SATA 3.0 Gbps. Installed the drive, did a "factory restore" from the dvd I created when I bought the machine (very useful!). The new disk layout doesn't have the hidden recovery partition (but I still have the dvd). I used QtParted 0.4.4 from SystemRescueCD 0.2.15 to shrink the Windows partition to 30 GB.

2009-02-18: the Samsung hard drive in the machine is starting to fail. Better replace it soon.

2006-07-14: I bought this laptop. The store labeled it as AS5672WMLI/CD22. It is insured until 2009-07-14.
