Dear Prospective Journalism Student,

The Timberwolf Times is looking for many types of staff members. We’re looking for a variety of writers who enjoy many things. Our goal as a school newspaper is to reach and involve as many students at Timpanogos High School as possible. We want to write positive, insightful articles that spotlight students and activities at THS.

If you are interested in being in journalism, please submit this essay and 2 references.

❏    1. Write an essay answering the following questions:
✏  Introduce yourself. Include your name, why you want to be in journalism, and what attracted you to journalism.
✏ What are your interests and hobbies? What sporting events, cultural or artistic events, books, music, school activities, clubs, or other interesting things do you watch, perform, participate or play?
✏ What makes you a good member of a journalism staff? What do you imagine your role would be on our staff? What are your best attributes?
✏ Please list at least 2 teacher references (at least one reference should be from an English teacher) and provide email addresses for both. Include these at the bottom of your essay.

❏    2. Submit your essay to Mrs. Phippen by emailing it to timptimes@gmail.com.  Surveys will be emailed to your references.
I will ask the following questions to each of your references:
        ✏ Is this student reliable?
        ✏ Is this student dependable?
✏ Is this student team-oriented? How does he/she work with a group?
✏ Is this student interesting and creative?
✏ Is this student capable of meeting non-negotiable deadlines?
✏ Does this student consistently produce quality work?
✏ Does this student have any unique/special talents valuable to our newspaper?
✏ What evidence have you seen of this student’s writing, editing, layout, photography, or other newspaper related skills?
✏ Would you recommend this student?

We are looking forward to having a great year. We’ll try to go on at least 3 field trips next year to study journalism in action. We’ll publish 8 editions next year in September, November, December, January, February, March, April & May.  We need fresh, good ideas, and we’d love to have a large, interesting, diverse staff. Please apply!
