Papershow

Just last week I was fortunate enough to be able to try Papershow which is a new digital pen solution from Canson a European paper company who has released this product. In the Papershow  kit I received a digital pen, a Bluetooth USB key, and two pads of interactive paper. The current solution only runs on Windows at this time and when you plug in the Bluetooth USB key the setup software launches and downloads the latest version of the Papershow software application to the Bluetooth USB key which also serves as Flash drive. Once the installation was complete I took the cap of the digital pen off and it paired with the Bluetooth receiver. Now I was ready to go. I took out a piece of the A4 interactive paper and started to write on it and instantaneously whatever I write came up on the computer screen. Papershow is an ideal tool for teachers that have access to a computer and a data projector. Everything that is written on the interactive paper can be viewed on the computer screen and displayed via the projector. Once the teacher has written the math examples with PaperShow it can be saved as a PDF file and emailed or printed out. Teachers will find using the pen to be easy to use and a more natural way for them to write mathematical equations that can be stored and printed out. Teachers can also quickly change the pen colors and highlight areas for students that may need to focus in on an area of the page. Having PaperShow in the classroom is a great way for teachers to present math content without the need for an interactive smartboard.  You can view how Papershow can be used in the math classroom to help students understand the concept of multiplication by watching this video.  In this demonstration video, the teacher used Papershow and Jing Project to record what was happening on the computer screen.

For teachers who use PowerPoint in their classroom Papershow can also help add some interactivity and allow you to annotate your presentation as they happen. The process for doing this is demonstrated in this video.
  • Papershow is great tool to help student to visualize math concepts in those classrooms where teachers may not have interactive whiteboards. The tool would allow teachers to provide students with multiple means of representation and help then to better understand math concepts. Once the information is recorded teachers can save the class notes to a PDF file and email it to their students or upload to the schools web page.
