Culture and Entertainment The Aragon BallroomThe Aragon is a rock concert venue with a rich history in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood. Henry and Clare see the Violent Femmes play at the Aragon Ballroom in 1991 (p. 155) Located on Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago, the Institute is both a school and a museum displaying "more than 5,000 years of human expression from cultures around the world." Henry visits himself as a child and teaches his younger self how to pickpocket at the Art Institute of Chicago. (p. 48-55) This zoo in south suburban Chicago opened in 1934 and is run by the Chicago Zoological Society. Henry, Clare, Gomez and Charisse take the kids to the Brookfield Zoo. (p. 454) Formerly the Chicago's first central public library, the Chicago Cultural Center hosts free music, dance and theater events, art exhibitions, films, lectures, and family events. Clare holds an exhibit at the cultural center, showing a collection of paper and wire sculptures depicting luminous birds. (p. 411) Located west of DePaul University, Facets is a non-profit organization that aims to preserve and educate about film. Clare recounts that she and Henry saw a movie at Facets the same night Gomez met an older Henry in another part of town. (p. 147) Henry and Clare had planned to see The Ghosts of Versailles at the Lyric Opera, but Henry has to be taken to the hospital. (p. 259) The Newberry Library is an independent research library with a focus on the humanities, located on the Near North Side of Chicago. Henry works at the Newberry Library, and he meets Clare for the first time there, even though she says she’s known him since she was a child. (p. 3) A casual concert venue in the Lake View neighborhood, The Vic was built in 1912 as a five-story vaudeville house called the Victoria Theater. Gomez meets a time-traveling Henry beating up his friend outside a Smoking Popes concert at The Vic. (p. 137) Shopping/Retail Henry and Gomez break into the Army-Navy Surplus Store so Henry can steal some clothes. (p. 138-139)

(p. 139) Henry wanders around the city on Christmas Eve, and stops at The Berghoff for a beer and some duck wursts with spaetzle. (p. 118) Celia drags Clare to Berlin to meet Ingrid. It doesn’t go well. (p. 244) Clare and Charisse bring Alba to Ed Debevic’s as a reward for being good at the art gallery.
