History

Timberwood Park is a census-designated place (CDP) in Bexar County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,889 at the 2000 census.

TIMBERWOOD PARK, TEXAS. Timberwood Park, also known as Timberwood, is a suburban residential community located west of U. S. Highway 281 about twenty miles north of San Antonio in northern Bexar County. Development had begun by the 1980s, and in 1990 Timberwood Park had a population of 2,578. That figure had more than doubled to 5,889 by 2000.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 5,889 people, 2,002 households, and 1,721 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 309.5 people per square mile (119.5/km²). There were 2,065 housing units at an average density of 108.5/sq mi (41.9/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 90.25% White, 1.10% African American, 0.46% Native American, 1.09% Asian, 4.33% from other races, and 2.77% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 20.26% of the population. The area submitted a petition signed by more than 4100 residents to the city of San Antonio Texas seeking immediate annexation - a ploy to get permission from the Texas Legislature to incorporate under Texas Statutory law. There were 2,002 households out of which 44.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 78.2% were married couples living together, 5.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 14.0% were non-families. 11.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.94 and the average family size was 3.18.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 31.5% from 25 to 44, 27.5% from 45 to 64, and 6.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 100.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.7 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $79,053, and the median income for a family was $83,203. Males had a median income of $52,196 versus $36,761 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $34,385. About 1.8% of families and 3.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.5% of those under age 18 and 5.6% of those ages 65 or over.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 19.0 square miles (49.3 km²), of which, 19.0 square miles (49.3 km²) of it is land and 0.05% is water.
