Enrolment Period:  12 months (As of April 2010)

Location:            Tiffany’s House Music Studio, Taman Tan Yew Lai, KL (OUG)

Mummy Evonne would like to share…

Before Wen Xuan joined Musikgarten, she was very attached (to me) and will not leave my side, she always grab hold of me very tightly in an unfamiliar environment. She did not react to music and was extremely shy with strangers.

After attending Musikgarten classes, she is more independent and is able to play by herself. She has started to explore the surroundings on her own, and become friendlier by waving hands or greeting people. Wen Xuan is also very sensitive to music now. Whenever she hears rocking song, she will lie on the floor. Whenever she hears horsey song, she will make a horse riding position. When we play her the Musikgarten songs, she remembers all the activities and movements, and she will repeat the activities on her own. When she was 1 year 3 months (in her baby class), the 1st song she reacted to is the “Land of the Silver Birch Medley”. Every night when I sing this song, she will stroke and tap her body. When she was 1 year 7 months, she danced and shook her body upon hearing the “Donkey Riding” song.

This Program has helped me found a way to play with my daughter through music. I don’t sing much before Wen Xuan is born, now I sing to wake her up in the morning, to rock her to sleep at night and to calm her down when she is crying.  From singing songs, she learn words such as “up”, “down”, “fast”, “slow” etc. I think I enjoy Musikgarten classes more then my daughter ! Simple because Musikgarten has the variety of songs collected from all over the world which I find very enriching. I like the studio environment very much. It is this 1st impression that I decided to sign up for the program.

Teacher Tiffany would like to share…

Musikgarten uses traditional lullabies from many cultures. Research shows that it is much easier to learn a traditional song then a new one. And over time, these folk songs have been refined and become especially powerful at creating soothing and calming effect that children need today. Wen Xuan was so “sticky” may be because she felt lack of security. With enough stimulation, she has developed a sense of security and become more independent.

Music evokes movement, and children are delight in movement. They require movement for their development and growth. In this case, Wen Xuan in her Horsey song has achieved this purpose. The music and movement activities in baby class embed small amount of “wait time”. A song may end with a dipping or kissing motion that the child learns to anticipate with delight which makes waiting fun. Through developing a vocabulary of movements, the child will gain better control of her body and will learn appropriate behavior that are pre-requisites for all living and learning.

It is very important that Wen Xuan is able to react to different piece of music accordingly. Emotionally she will be able to apply & switch to different environment easily. It is great to know that Mommy Evonne is practicing “active music making” at home, where music has become part of the Wen Xuan ’s life. An appropriate learning environment serves as a bridge, and provides the necessary security for a child’s success in learning. I am glad that both of you are enjoying the studio.

Age of Child:      2 years

Course Enrolled:   Musikgarten “Family Music for Babies" Program &

Musikgarten "Family Music for Toddlers” Program

Enrolment Period: 14 months (As of April 2010)

Location:           Tiffany’s House Music Studio, Taman Tan Yew Lai, KL (OUG)

Mummy Jing Jing would like to share…

We were introduced to Musikgarten program by a relative who has attended the program. Before Livia joined Musikgarten, she was clueless about music. She was neither observant nor sensitive towards music and sounds.

After attending Musikgarten classes, Livia is very alert. She is also very attentive when she hears a new sound.  I found that she enjoys dancing and has developed a love in music. The program enhances her interest in exploring new instrument for example, the piano. She too has become more sociable and blends in well with her friends. She is always looking forward to attend the Musikgarten class every week. During her very young age, I was so surprised to find out that she actually remembered and reminded me on the day of her class!

Now Livia likes to sing and can remember the song’s name together with its lyrics. She is able to follow the rhythm, tempo and beat in the music. I observed that she is able to take instructions well and has learnt to take turns. She has better control of her body and improved hand and eye co-ordination.

I am very pleased with the program and enjoy myself thoroughly. This program has helped me to bond very well with my daughter in the music aspect, being singing and dancing with her.  I love the way Teacher Tiffany decorate and improve her Studio. It is a great environment for the kids! I will definitely recommend this program to all the kids especially to babies.

Teacher Tiffany would like to share…

Family Music for Babies is designed for parents and their babies. It enables mummy to know how to play musically with the baby. Each class features bouncing, rocking songs, wiggle and peek-a-boo games which provides fun activities for mummy and baby. It also helps in sensory-motor skill which is the basis for development of abstract thought and cognitive functioning. This will lead baby to construct new pattern of movement - eye/hand, eye/arm, reach, grasp and release, sit, creep, crawl and walk.

Musikgarten’s musical play for baby increases baby’s curiosity about music. It helps in developing listening skills and a sense of beat. At the same time, it establishes a foundation for singing and musical thought which explains Livia ’ s passion for singing and music.

This program also helps mummy to form a closer bond with her baby through music and fun. Bonding and attachment establish a secure psychological foundation which enables baby to grow into healthy, confident young children. Furthermore, it will also give baby a chance to interact with other parents and babies.  Thank you mummy Jing Jing for the support given to Tiffany’s House Music Studio and the Musikgarten program all this while!

Course Enrolled:    Musikgarten “Family Music for Toddlers” Program

Enrolment Period:  2.5 months (As of April 2010)

Location:            Tiffany’s House Music Studio, Taman Tan Yew Lai, KL (OUG)

Mummy Esther would like to share…

Isaac, being our only child, is a cheerful boy. He likes to mingle with other children. However, he does not like to be in a large crowd especially in a singing & party environment. He tends to cry and feels restless. When Isaac first joined Musikgarten classes, he was very reluctant to stay in the class. I still remember during the first 2 classes, he cried non stop and we ended up bringing him out less then 10 minutes after the class started.

During his 3rd lesson, we only managed to participate in the activities outside the classroom (literally standing at the door). I realized Isaac slowly started to calm down and observed what Teacher Tiffany and other children were doing inside the room. As recommended by my sister (whose child has attended Musikgarten at Tiffany’s House Music Studio), we are quite persistent and we believe Musikgarten can help Isaac. True enough, on his 5th lesson, he actually went through a full class with minimum fuss.

I found that after attending Musikgarten classes, Isaac has become bolder especially in approaching people. He also started to pick up more words and able to focus more on the class. He enjoys Musikgarten classes very much and feels excited whenever he has class now (close to a point of not wanting to go home after class).

This program has a good blend of fun activities as well as learning.  I like Tiffany’s House Music Studio as it is cozy and provides a fun look to the class.

Teacher Tiffany would like to share…

Impulse control is important for children to be successful in learning, at making friends, and at doing complex movement tasks. It consists of 3 ingredients, namely the ability to calm, the ability to wait and the development of inner speech. Inner speech is a kind of “self talk” children will use to guide their actions.

Musikgarten is strongly committed to linking music, movement, and language together for children. This strengthens the children’s ability to organize their listening skills and their ability to control their behavior.  In this case, Isaac has done it in his 5th lesson, where he is able to control himself well in the class.

Children learn best from a fun environment. Family Music for Toddler belongs to the family.  I am so glad that Mummy Esther & Daddy Dominic has the trust and determination in Musikgarten and hence making the changes possible for Isaac. Well done Mummy & Daddy!

Child’s Name:       Kian Yao

Parent’s Name:     Winnie Foong

Age of Child:       2 years 8 months

Course Enrolled:    Musikgarten “Family Music for Toddlers” Program

Enrolment Period:  6 months (As of April 2010)

Location:            Tiffany’s House Music Studio, Taman Tan Yew Lai, KL (OUG)

Mummy Winnie would like to share…

As Kian Yao is my only child, and most of the time he is alone without any playmates. This is the same when he is at his nannny’s place. Due to the lack of interaction, he was a very passive, quiet and timid boy. He was also very afraid of strangers. When Kian Yao first joined Musikgarten class, he cried and refused to go into the classroom with the rest of the children.

After attending Musikgarten classes, I found that Kian Yao has changed. He is more active, more talkative and more confident now. He has stopped crying and started to follow the class activities and started to communicate with other children in the class. He is able to say “thank you” upon receiving of his name sticker from Teacher Tiffany and also greet everyone during the hello song. He is more discipline now as he has learned to wait for his turn during instrument playing time.

Among those nursery rhyme CD’s I bought for him, Kian Yao prefers the Musikgarten “Family Music for Toddlers” CD most. I am so surprise to find out that he knows what action or dance to go for the songs. He can also remember the lyrics and will sing the song together with me at home. He is always looking forward to go to his Musikgarten class now.

I am grateful that my sister recommended this program to me. I found the program very helpful especially in preparing Kian Yao for his future learning whether in nursery, school or music courses. Tiffany’s House Music Studio is very homely and comfortable. We enjoy our time there very much. I would like to thank Teacher Tiffany for her passion in teaching young children.

Teacher Tiffany would like to share…

The art of self calming is an ability to self-regulate our emotion. Children are not born with a calming switch, they first learn to calm by being calmed. This could be taught by using the most powerful tool in the world - music. Musikgarten program imbeds traditional relaxing and calming lullabies, which has gone through the refinery process to deliver a calming and a loving effect on children which Kian Yao has experienced in this case.

Activities in Musikgarten are also designed to take in cues from children, and making children’s opinion count in the class. This will help in slowly building up the confidence level of a child.

Many songs and musical games have cues built into them. There are signals to speed up, to slow down, and most importantly of all, to stop! It is not easy for young children to stop once they are moving. They need a lot of enjoyable practices to learn to stop and, to hold back and wait.

Mummy Tey would like to share…

Before Elvin joined Musikgarten, he was very active and restless.
He has limited imitation skill too.
He finds difficulty in sitting down and sharing with others.

After attending Musikgarten classes, I found that Elvin’s imitation skill has improved significantly.
He will follow the action in the class when we are doing the activity.
When Teacher Tiffany is distributing the instruments, he is able to sit still and wait for his turn.
Elvin has become calmer, happier and has changed into a child who loves music.
He will always look forward to come to the class by reminding me about “Musikgarten” even though he cannot speak fluently yet.

This program is good as it is consistent.  With enough repetition, Elvin is able to understand and benefit from it.

Teacher Tiffany would like to share…

Music is very powerful in the sense that it can counteract stress; it can promote the release of brain chemicals that will signal pleasure, and put a child to a calmer stage; it can conjure up feelings and emotions; it can encourage imagination; …. Musikgarten program embeds relaxing songs, lullabies and quiet activities throughout the lesson. The child learns to shift from excitement to calmness and from movement to stillness.

Children often do not have enough words to express themselves and need positive ways to release their emotions.
In this case, Elvin has achieved calmness by way of rocking songs in the program.

Musikgarten is able to help children to sit still and concentrate.
This is very important skill to master in preparation for schooling in later years.

Many of the songs and singing games in the programs have cues built into them. These are signals to speed up, to slow down, and most important of all, to stop! It is not easy for young children to stop once they are moving, they need a lots of enjoyable practice to develop the “brakes” they need. This will also help in their motor skill control.

Before Elijah joined Musikgarten, he was a very active and self-centered boy.
He was having difficulty in following instructions and he was unwilling to share with others.
He has problem expressing himself in a friendly way too.

After attending Musikgarten classes, I found that he has learned to listen to instruction from Teacher Tiffany, and know how to take turns in the class. He has become friendlier, and likes to share his happiness with his friends in the class. I also found that his interest in music has improved after attending Musikgarten classes. He can now sing to the correct rhythm and the correct pitch all by himself. He is also more confident in expressing himself.

The studio has a very friendly environment and the children are friendly too. I really like it and enjoy my time there because it makes me feel like home.

Teacher Tiffany would like to share…

Musikgarten gives children a wonderful opportunity to learn in groups. This can prepare them for school, and gives them a chance to connect with the children of their own age in a program designed to give them social success, hence friendlier and happier.

In the program, there are many opportunity to practice waiting, the children will then build up the discipline of waiting as they learn how to share and take turns. It will also help them as they learn to “listen and do” that is part of all the “call and response” songs and games. Finally, it will help them develop a sense of timing and a strong sense of rhythm.

Musikgarten uses traditional folk songs from all over the world. These are the songs that have comforted and soothed babies for generations. Naturally, the child who is fortunate enough to experience the songs will begin to fall in love with music. This explains Elijah’s interest in music.

With the studio cosy and friendly environment, parents and children will be relax and calm and hence making family musical learning fun, natural and stress free !

Location:            Tiffany’s House Music Studio, Taman Tan Yew Lai, KL (OUG)

Mummy Ruby would like to share…

When Javern first joined Musikgarten, he will not pay attention to the activity and walk around in the classroom. He has an enclosed personality and felt very shy when it comes to the hello greeting song.

After about four classes, he is able to sit down and start to participate in the activities in class. He even started to hum “Ba Ba” at home, the things that he has learnt from the class.

Now he can also rhythm the stick on beat together with Teacher Tiffany. I also found that Javern has opened up himself and become friendlier. He will say “hello everybody” when it is his turn for the greeting song now.

Javern has certainly improved. He is more participative and also able to recite on certain sound of the animals from the CD. Musikgarten has helped my son to be able to sit still and concentrate. This is important and I believe this will help him during his future learning. He also learnt to wait for his turn during the instrument playing time. With this waiting skill, he also learnt how to share and take turns.

The Musikgarten program is a good program for young children to start of with music. Tiffany’s House Music Studio is great! Teacher Tiffany is able to make the Musikgarten program fun, cheerful and full with excitement! “Hip Hip Hooray” to Teacher Tiffany. Great job!

Teacher Tiffany would like to share…

Most children can sit still just fine to look at things, but as soon as the ears are involved their attention seems to fall apart. Children’s ears actually have two channels, a primary one devoted to handling balancing and movement, and a secondary one is devoted to listening.

The ears need to learn how to combine these two channels. First they need to establish good movement skills and language skills. As children’s language skills become stronger, they are able to override their strong impulses to move. Only then are they able to let the outer movement quiet down so that they can truly sit still and listen.

The best training possible for learning to sit still is a strong music and movement program, in this case Musikgarten will be able to help Javern to sit still and listen which is important when he goes to school later on.

Course Enrolled:    Musikgarten “Cycle of Seasons” Program

Enrolment Period:  6 months (As of April 2010)

Location:            Tiffany’s House Music Studio, Taman Tan Yew Lai, KL (OUG)

Mummy Fennie would like to share…

Before Erin joined Musikgarten, she was a very shy and reserved girl.  We didn’t know a lot of the children songs back then and she used to listen to one song repeatedly.

After attending Musikgarten classes, I found that she has opened up herself. Now she is not that shy anymore. With the Musikgarten variety of songs, she learns better quality songs and able to sing better too. Now, she enjoys singing and has developed a love in music. I am very happy to see that this has influence her brother at home too. I can see the brother rocking himself and imitating Erin with a rocking song from Musikgarten.

Musikgarten is a very good program and Erin likes it very much. She looks forward very much to her classes and never fail to remind me to attend the class every week. The studio is well decorated and comfortable. Sad to say that I have been to another studio where the teacher was unable to control the class but Teacher Tiffany is really good at controlling the environment and the kids.

Teacher Tiffany would like to share…

A child’s name is her identity. To greet a child by name is not only an especially pleasing personal greeting, but also an affirmation of the child’s personhood. Individual hello song in Musikgarten identifies and calls attention to a child by acknowledging her presence. This is a simple yet powerful way of building the self confidence within a child. After the child is secure in her musical environment, the opportunity to respond individually is critical for vocal development.

Singing games in Musikgarten encourage social activity. Circle dances are tied to tradition of folk dances, they are shared and passed down from generation to generation. Singing game in Musikgarten can be done anywhere there is a small group of people together. Children love to sing and dance at home, hence fostering closer tie within family members.

Musikgarten has compiled a huge variety of quality songs from all over the world. This provides the child an opportunity to get to know other cultures too.

Course Enrolled:    Musikgarten “Cycle of Seasons” Program

Enrolment Period:  9 months (As of April 2010)

Location:            Tiffany’s House Music Studio, Taman Tan Yew Lai, KL (OUG)

Mummy Soh would like to share…

Chor Young is my second son, before he joined Musikgarten, he used to be a very quiet and shy boy. He would not talk to his friends in the class and would hide his head behind my back when it is his turn in the class. He was so shy that he could not see himself face to face in the mirror! When it is “ba ba” time, he would just kept quiet by merely looking at teacher without any respond.

After attending Musikgarten classes, I found that Chor Young is more confident and independent now. He is able to voice out his idea to Teacher Tiffany and reply firmly in the greeting song. He has improved in his English and his social skill overall. Nowadays, I found that he is happier and enjoy his class a lot.

The program has benefited Chor Young in many ways. The studio is nice too as Chor Young likes to come here every time.

Teacher Tiffany would like to share…

The developmental needs of the children, the goal of preparing them for school, and the experience of becoming part of a group are all fundamental to the Musikgarten curriculum design.

All the folk songs and musical traditions enrich children and foster this sense of music making as community building. The more children feel heard and valued as they make contributions to the activities, the more confidence they will have, which they will carry with them to school in the future.

During each “Cycles of Seasons” class, children participate in many discussions about the songs and musical activities they are doing, and together they add new twists to them. Opportunity is always on the look out to add suspense and create new elements to the songs and musical games. This will help the children to develop a sense for nuance or slight changes and strengthens their ability to attend well. Chor Young is able to experience all this activities in CS which has strongly boost up his interest in music, hence making him happier and each class a fun and enjoyable one!

Mummy Renuka would like to share…

When Ahshwiyn first joined Musikgarten, he has difficulties following instructions. He would feel very upset and cried every time when things didn’t go his way. Sometimes, he would throw tantrums just to get our attention.

After attending Musikgarten classes, I found that Ahshwiyn is able to control his emotion more and become calmer in nature. Ahshwiyn has changed, he seems to appreciate music more and he is more inclined to music nowadays. We also realized that he is into “composing” his own songs!Ahshwiyn first joined Musikgarten in the Toddler program and recently was advised by Teacher Tiffany to join the Cycles of Seasons class which is more suitable for him after he turned 4 years old.

The Cycles of Seasons seems to be a very holistic program, whereby I believe with Ahsywiyn’s age now, he is able to be more independent and be in the class all by himself without my accompany. I am impressed by the Tiffany’s House Music Studio outfit, the equipments and apparatus provided during the class.

Teacher Tiffany would like to share…

The ability to improvise a song calls for a special kind of intelligence. It is an ability to think outside the box and come up with a new idea. The child needs to be aware of the overall form of the composition and then come up with a fresh idea that can fit in. It is usually regarded as the highest form of intelligence we can offer to our children. In this case, Ahshwiyn is able to use his own words or lyrics to a song. "Great progress, Ahshwiyn! "

Nothing is more nourishing than the opportunity to soak up the love of a parent through music. Musikgarten classes offer folk wisdom of the elders around the world through historic songs. Naturally, children who are able to experience these songs would have at the same time experience comforting and calming effect.

Now that Ahshwiyn has progressed from “Family Music for Toddler” to “Cycle of Seasons”, he has a better grip on both the total development as well as the musical development. Musikgarten activities are designed based on research, with age appropriateness in mind. Hence, children will always find the class fun and enjoyable.
