About Allan Tibby

Mr. Allan Tibby is a New Zealand citizen but has resided in the Philippines for over 35 years. He is a highly respected Hindu guru and business man in Asia, promoting the ideals of Karma Yoga.

Allan (also known in Hindu circles as Acharya das) is active in the Philippine Hindu community especially with the Chaitanya Mission.  He began the practice of yoga at age 14 in the small North Island town of Te Aroha.  Just prior to his 20th birthday he moved to India where he studied Vedic philosophy and Sanskrit and later travelled in Asia both teaching and continuing his personal practice in the Vaishnava tradition.  The Vaishnava school of Vedic thought and practice is regarded by many to be possibly the most influential amongst the different branches of Hinduism.  The particular lineage of teachers he belongs to is known as the Brahma Sampradaya or the Brahma Gaudiya Sampradaya. From 1998 until 2006 he was appointed as the General Secretary of the World Vaishnava Association, an Indian based umbrella organization for over 50 Indian and International Vaishnava Missions and religious organizations.

Practicing Hindus comprise almost 20% of the world's population. The system of guru and disciple is an inseparable part of Hinduism and yoga. Not only has Allan Tibby had several gurus or teachers of Hindu and yoga philosophy and religion, but he himself is also a teacher and is regularly invited to speak at Hindu temples around the world and at special Hindu events etc., and has been doing so for decades.  At the invitation of the Indian Ambassador to the Philippines, Allan spoke at official Embassy functions about the Vedic spiritual tradition. He also spoke before the 2004 Parliament of the World’s Religions in Barcelona, and was requested by the Council of the Laity in the Philippines to conduct training seminars for the Catholic Church's lay community leaders on the issues of family, marriage and the sanctity of life.  He has also conducted training  seminars for yoga teachers in Asia to audiences of 300 or more.  He is presently collaborating on a translation and commentary of the ancient yoga classic, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.
