Notes for JOHN A GOINS: Email Received on March 10, 2007 from Bill Blumenauer Tracy,
John A. and Mary Belle (Sykes) Goins had three daughters: Jessie Mae, Cottie, and Mary Margret (My Great Grandmother). Jessie Mae had a son who passed away in 1983. Cottie had a son who was lost in Vietnam. My great grandmother had no boys...only my grandmother. My grandmother had two sons and two daughters, the next generation down (my generation) has no sons from the boys, only from the girls.
Bill
Tracy,
All I know is what my grandmother told me about him, and she got it second hand from my great grandma Margret. He was building a theatre in Kansas (Baxter Springs Township, Cherokee County) and was killed in an industrial accident before 1934. From the story, the awning at the front of the "movie house" fell on him after he fell through it.
Bill
From what we know (Great Grandma didn't keep any records) All three girls of Mary Belle and John were born in Oklahoma. My great grandmother was born in 1916. Her parents were both living in Baxter Springs, KS at one point but lived on a farm somewhere out of town. Which would explain the lack of census report.
His name was James (I know, very generic, huh?)

Notes for JOHN WESLEY MORRISON: Email received from Cyndie Hoelscher on March 4, 2007: Okay, Mary Jane Goins married john W. Morrison, according to their son, Dan Morrison, whom my father and I interviewed in 1996. Dan Morrison was born 8 Sept 1908 and died in 28 Jun 1997, before I could get back to ask him more questions. His father was John W. Morrison and his mother was Mary Jane Goins.
Dan stated that he married a Goins and his sister, Mattie also married a Goins. This was a small community of Bear Creek in Chatham County, North Carolina (down the road from Glover's Church) and it is filled with Waldens and Goinses. There is a small cemetery in the woods filled with Goinses and Waldens. These Goinses claim descendency from Rebecca Goins, daughter of Leah, my great-great-great-great grandmother who was categorized as a Croatan Indian as her race. Rebecca Goins, sister to my Daniel Goins, was also recorded as croatan as race on her death certificate which I am attaching. Members of this family also include Asa and Champ Goins who were active in the tribal council for the Lumbee tribe.
Now, this is what old man Dan told us in his interview and which I have not been able to verify one way or another. He said that there were two Indian children living alone in a cave on Deep River. His grandmother, Morrison found the children and took them as her own. They became Morrisons, but he did not know what tribe or why they were living in the cave. I believe this woman, his grandmother, was Martha Morrison. What I could not corroborate either was if John W. Morrison, his father, was one of those adopted children of Martha Morrison. It is a complex story for sure.

Photo of Day, Florence and Beckey Ann (Goins) McGahey submitted by Tracy Hutchison Notes for BECKEY ANN GOINS: Notes From Annette Corbell:
The "Mt. Hope Cemetery, Afton, Oklahoma" by Hildred H. Ables and Maxine Marcum Schrup reports that Mrs. Wes Shafer is buried at Mt. Hope. There is no gravestone apparently and this is marked as based on an item in the Afton American, March 18, 1920.
Mrs. Wes Shaffer died Saturday at her home on Horse Creek. The deceased was 31 years of age and leaves a husband and five children by a former marriage. The funeral took place Sunday, interment being in Mt. Hope cemetery. Mrs. Shafer formerly lived in Afton, her first husband’s name being McGaha, who worked at the round house at the time of his death.
Notes from Judy Good with Afton, Ottawa Co. Genealocal:
There is not any McGahay show in Mt. Hope. That list was updated from funeral home records, obits and other sources. When the two ladies (I personally knew Ables) they just listed headstones there. More were added from sources given. Shafer Mrs. Wes, age 31, died at Horse Creek home ,Saturday March 18-1920,(1m) McGaha, (2), wife, of A. Wesley Shaeffer, age 84 was buried, Sixkiller cemetery, Afton Okla. Oct. 28-1937 and there is also a William Shaeffer/Shafer buried there in 1937 I think. (We are hoping to get back down to Sixkiller and update that listing and take more pictures of the headstones.)
Lookups will still check some stuff, and you never know, might find something else.

Notes for JOHN LEWIS GOINS: Submitted by Beverly Weldon on Feb 27, 2007 Jon Lewis (John) 1930-1977 - adopted in 1934 by James P. & Della Roberta Chancellor Weldon and name changed to John Phillip Weldon
John Lewis was adopted by James P. Weldon & Della Roberta Chancellor Weldon on 3 Aug 1936. "child 6 years old on 20 Jul 1936 - Father N. S. Goins present - mother of said child being dead - hereafter name of child will be John Philip Weldon". Tulsa County Judge - Jerome Fischer - Probate #12533. Mandy got interested in Genealogy about 4 or 5 years ago and asked her mother about the Goins - Kathryn told her to "hunt me up because I knew them". She does not have a computer - I sent her all the info I had at the time and copies of all the things Coy had given me from different family members and the original of her father's adoption paper. (I kept a copy)

vi. THURSTON WESLEY GOINS, b. 05 Sep 1932, Custer, OK; d. 23 Oct 1994, Destin, Walton, FL; m. BEVERLY JANE BETH BROOKS, 30 Sep 1951, Tulsa, OK; b. 30 Jun 1933, Tulsa, Tulsa, OK.
Notes for THURSTON WESLEY GOINS: Submitted by Beverly Weldon on Feb 27, 2007 Thurston Wesley 1932-1994 - adopted in 1935 by James P. & Della Roberta Chancellor Weldon and name changed to JoeBob Weldon (and when he went in the Navy had to have a middle name so they broke it up to Joe Bob). We were married in 1952 and have two sons, Steve and Jim, and 3 grandsons and 2 granddaughters and 3 g grandkids. John always said he knew they were adopted (?) but he was a mommys boy - JoeBob was an outdoors guy and lived it in his own world - knew-probably. Tom picked him up when JoeBob was hitch hiking home after school one day and they were talking and Tom asked him what his name was because he looked familiar and when JoeBob told him - he said "no wonder you are my brother". When he got home well things did not go well from then on. He joined the Navy after graduation (and we had had a fight that summer). We got married after he got out of the Navy and have been with the families - "boys" as they were called, ever since. I got most of my Goins & Dye info from Coy, as he was interested and visited with some of the family that was into genealogy. I started in the 70's and did some in the 80's but really got serious in 1996 when I got my first computer. As you can see Tom is the only one still with us. Three sister in laws - me, Pati - Coy's wife, she lives on Grand Lake, & Betty, Jack's wife, lives in Sand Springs, she is quite ill. I see and talk with Pati & Tom all the time and Tom's 2 kids and grandkids and g grandkids. I have been making copies of my info for John, Toms grandson, who is interested in the family. I have "borrowed" your info from family trees and compared to what I have. Most is the same but I have lots of questions, which I will get into later. I have some on a PAF but it takes so much time. Oh - DNA - I'll see if I can get John to do it or Tom. Ask what ever you want. Share with all. Hello to all out there. Love Beverly
Cremated - ashes sprinkled in the "Deep Blue" 3 miles south of the Destin East Pass Channel Marker - Gulf of Mexico.
