These are some of the tools and objectives that the teachers from the Center's 21st Century Learning Initiative have worked on with their students this year.

4th grade students worked on improving speaking skills by using Audacity to record themselves as they designed, planted and cared for the horticultural area at their school. They then published the audio recordings as podcasts so that they could share them with their family and friends. You can listen to all that the students accomplished at Gardening Fun with Friends by Mrs. Swartz' Fourth Grade Class

4th graders used Glogster to create a digital visual to use during an oral presentation about the Holocaust and World War II. The Glog was to have an embedded video, 2-3 facts, and several images that they could refer to during their presentation.

High School AP German Students used Poll Everywhere and their cell phones to practice using the correct tense in their written sentences. The teacher was able to assess immediately what skills she needed to review before moving on to her next objective.

3rd grade students used Voicethread to create a representation of a story they had read. The teacher's focus of the project was the representation, so spelling, grammar, and even sequential flow were not assessed.

10th grade history students accomplished the following objectives through this project:

Summarize their presentation from class to refresh students' memories (all VoiceThreads were posted in the class
Moodle)
Provide a short (two minute) persuasive explanation about why students should support the reform movement highlighted in the VoiceThread
Provide an interactive forum for students to comment on each others' presentations and provide feedback (without using excessive amounts of class time)

4th graders completed a Google Form for homework and came into class the next day to view these results. They then used the data to create a word cloud in Wordle that started their whole group conversation.

The objective was for students to be able to analyze the character’s feelings of loss coupled with living in a new place without friends or family around. Additionally, the teacher wanted to connect a study of the Mid-West with the novel’s setting.
