Code of Conduct for Enrichment Activities

The goal for Thoreau Elementary PTA is to provide enrichment activities for all students.  However in the past, the PTA Board received several complaints about disruptive students in some of our enrichment classes.  We have determined that we cannot allow a student to remain in a program if he/she is disruptive to the rest of the class.  In order to proactively deal with such situations, our PTA Board has developed a student Code of Conduct Contract, which explains expected student behavior and the consequences of misbehavior while attending our clubs/classes.  This form must be read and signed by both a student and parent and returned to the class instructor to continue participation in a class.  The PTA has also developed a "Behavior Report", which is similar to the "Speeding Tickets" used at school, to notify parents of a student's misbehavior in an activity.  In addition, our PTA has prepared a form for parent volunteers and instructors which spells out some specific steps in dealing with disruptive students, as well as some guidelines for student safety.  We hope that these guidelines will be useful in ensuring that all students in our programs have a safe and enjoyable experience.  You will find all of these forms attached.  Please make sure that BOTH you and your child has read and signed the Code of Conduct and that your child brings it to the first class.  Your child WILL NOT be able to participate in the club without the signed form.
