Spori (English translation = dew claw or spur) was born on July 17,
2003 and came to us from Edda Björk Ármannsdóttir in Iceland in the summer of 2006. He
was bred in Iceland by Guðný Halla Gunnlaugsdóttir of Gerplu Ræktun, one of the
most prominent breeders of Icelandic Sheepdogs in Iceland. We feel very fortunate to have been picked as Spori's new owners.
Spori has a wonderful gentle personality, is always at your side and has excellent natural instincts as well as great confidence. He is one of the few dogs that are alspora, i.e. has double dew claws on all four legs, and has exceptional agility.
The head shot of Spori here to left is from the cover of the 2005 almanac published by DIF. While living in Iceland Spori entered several dog shows as puppy, juvenile and adult dog. He always received an excellent (highest) qualification evaluation and in several instances was in first place in his group and advanced to the next category. He once received honorable mention. An example of his show evaluations can be found here. Spori has entered several UKC shows in the US and always won best male and best of breed. He became UKC Champion in April 2008. Spori's litter mate Gerplu Dala Drífa is the most successful conformation female in Iceland in the last couple of years and became Icelandic Champion in 2007.
Spori has sired five litters that resulted in twenty five wonderful puppies. The
dam of the first litter was Kæpa frá Þyturstaðir at Heimskauts Hundur Icelandics. The puppies at young age can be seen at the Heimskauts kennel webpage http://www.icelandicpolardog.com/. Heimskauts Skella, one of the female puppies from this litter now resides at the Foothills Icelandics in Alberta, Canada. She won Best of Breed in the first show she entered in Canada. Three of her litter mates are Heimskauts Odinn, Heimskauts Nash and Heimskauts Eydís. The second third and fourth litters Spori sired was with our Grima with puppies born in September 2007, December 2008 and May 2010. Pictures and news about the puppies from these litters can be found elsewhere on our website. The dam of the fifth litter was Lavandels Vorros at Gaia Icelandic Sheepdogs. This litter resulted in five puppies, three girls and two boys. One of the female puppies is alspora and is co-owned with Anthea and Wayne Thacker. Another female puppy in this litter had double dew claws on three legs.
Spori's hips were evaluated in Iceland and received an excellent score of A. His eyes are normal.
