We moved into our 1960's split level on April 18, 2009...follow us on our decorating adventures! They will be slow, but worth the wait (at least I hope!) Home Sweet Home! The house sits across the street from our city park and has a lovely view with tons of trees. It is going to be a great place for the boys to grow up. The entryway...I'm so excited to have an actual entryway with a coat closet. Our last house had neither so I feel very spoiled. I was taking these photos from the stairs if you're wondering why there is more ceiling in the shot than floor. :) And you will start to notice a trend of yellow. The previous owners loved it. A few items that I would like to put in this space...chalkboard from Paper Source and the coat rack made of vintage trim that I scored at a local antique show for $20! I also have an old piano bench that I want to paint/reupholster and place here as well. On the lower level off of the entryway there is a family/rec room. It will house our computer, treadmill, TV and will be a great play room for the boys when they are a little older. The other room on this level is a half bath. And yes, it is THAT yellow. It has a great new laminate tile floor and is a wonderful blank slate to work with. This lovely vanity will definitely be replaced... Had enough yellow yet?! Sorry...there is more... The stairs to the main level...I do love the wood, but the railing leaves something to be desired. Looking up into the main floor...and a color other than yellow! I love the cream/chocolate brown hallway color combo. The front room that we will be using for a dining room and maybe a sitting area (and walker racing room for the boys) It is a rather large room and I love the picture window. The walls will be painted a medium shade of gray. Current color is hard to see in this photo but it is a dark shade of teal. Rug and sheers are from the previous owner. The rickety railing has already been replaced by a sturdy half wall. No worries about baby heads or other body parts getting stuck between rails. The dining room is almost completely painted thank to my sweet mother-in-law! Here is a sneak peak of the color. I love it! Looking into the front room from the back of the house. There are lovely french doors that lead into the family room/kitchen area. Where there is a fireplace and a big open space that includes the kitchen. The brick will be getting a fresh coat of white paint, and a new mantle is just begging to be installed. The space needs quite a bit of work, from the carpet to the outdated cabinets and countertop, but I know we will make it lovely. We love the door out to the patio...we'll be doing a lot of grilling this summer! Items in the running for the kitchen are IKEA butcher block countertops, the IKEA farmhouse sink we had in our first house, and an island of some sort. I would like to do open shelving or at least take the cabinet doors off of the top cabinets to display our dishes etc. I love these pictures for inspiration (from blogger Resolved2Worship)... One of my favorite luxuries of this house is the laundry room right off of the family room/kitchen. A huge improvement from the basement set-up we had in the old house. The themey border and blue walls have got to go, but I'm loving this space just for the convenience of it! Connecting the kitchen to the hallway is the full bathroom (it has a door on either end which could lead to some embarrassing moments if we aren't careful!) Love the wainscoting, but the wall color is a little too bright for our taste. I would like to paint it a serene sea glassy green with a white shower curtain like this one from Target... (I love the subtle ruffles at the top) I do love the oil rubbed bronze hardware, although the tortoise-shell-ish light covers aren't quite our style. Took these pictures at the inspection so please ignore the random seller's crap on the counter. And now on to the bedrooms! They are all in the same corner of the house, with ours sandwiched in between the boys. I'm sure that is how they would like it. :) Ben's room was green with fuchsia in the built-in before... And now it is a nice soothing tan with a pop of dark brown in the built-in. Still have to get the shelves put back in there. His room will have chocolate brown and orange accents, with this Ben Harper Poster and Amy Butler fabric for curtains... Ben's room in progress...it is hard to take pics in this small space! Like Landon's room it is pretty bare and the walls need some decor... Landon's room was BLUE. And not just the walls, but the trim around the doors AND the closet doors. Just lovely. Valance, again, not staying. Now it is a cozy brown with white trim. Much better. (same color their nursery in the old house was because I loved it so much) Painting in progress... ![]() Painting done! Now those bare walls need some fun decorations. Curtains are from the boys' previous nursery and the bookcase was my grandparents. It will be receiving a coat of bright white paint and a little something special inside the shelves... And finally, the master, or I guess you could call it that. It is quite a bit smaller than the bedroom we had at the old house, and we no longer have a true master suite with an attached bath, but it is very cozy, and we didn't have to paint because the neutral tan works well with our furniture etc. The valances are the previous owners...replaced with long chocolate brown panels. So cozy. Here is the before... ![]() And after... (still working on finding a home for all the excess clutter) Our brown curtains from the old house were a perfect fit in here. Over the bed... Over the dresser... So that's the house! I'll be adding updated photos to show our progress so stay tuned! |
