The first
phase of the project involved assembling the go-kart and modifying it to
achieve remote control of the UGV. This entailed the following:
- Actuating the pedals and steering wheel.
- Building the driving circuits.
- Modelling the systems of the vehicle.
- Designing the controllers and building the embedded controlling unit.
- Establishing wireless communication with an on-board computer.
- Programming the main processing unit.
- Establishing communication between the main processing unit and the embedded
controlling unit.
- Establishing live video feedback.
- Acquiring electronic compass readings.
- Acquiring GPS readings.
- Acquiring information about obstacles from the Laser Range Finder.
- Designing a Graphical User Interface at the remote base station.
- Integrating the systems and achieving remote wireless control.
- Designing a path planning algorithm in preparation for Phase II.
