Phase I


YAN-1

The first phase of the project involved assembling the go-kart and modifying it to achieve remote control of the UGV. This entailed the following:
 

  1. Actuating the pedals and steering wheel.
  2. Building the driving circuits.
  3. Modelling the systems of the vehicle.
  4. Designing the controllers and building the embedded controlling unit.
  5. Establishing wireless communication with an on-board computer.
  6. Programming the main processing unit.
  7. Establishing communication between the main processing unit and the embedded controlling unit.
  8. Establishing live video feedback.
  9. Acquiring electronic compass readings.
  10. Acquiring GPS readings.
  11. Acquiring information about obstacles from the Laser Range Finder.
  12. Designing a Graphical User Interface at the remote base station.
  13. Integrating the systems and achieving remote wireless control.
  14. Designing a path planning algorithm in preparation for Phase II.
