The World Stage, the cultural
cornerstone of Leimert Park, continues the legacy of our distinguished
founders, drummer Billy Higgins and poet Kamau Daaóod. Its mission is to provide leadership that secures, preserves
and advances the position of African-inspired music, literature and the spoken
word where classic and emerging forms of creative expression can be presented to
a local, national and global audience and supported.
At The World Stage, virtuosos
mentor emerging artists and writers, sharing their skills and wisdom. Guest
instructors such as Barry Harris, Justo Almario and Billy Childs have conducted
master classes. Through workshops, concerts, clinics and jam sessions, The
World Stage makes African American culture accessible to everyone. As a
result, over the years The World Stage has produced dozens of professional
writers and musicians. We need your help to further our mission.
Every day we coordinate a full
schedule of workshops and performances, including Saturday classes for both
children and adults. If you haven’t been to The World Stage recently we invite
you to come and witness the significant ways we’re working to make a positive
impact on our community. A full schedule of programs, workshops and events is
available at www.TheWorldStage.org.
The work of The World Stage is
more important now than ever before. Although there is a strong correlation
between arts education and other educational outcomes, budgets and programs of
the arts are decreasing, which disproportionately affects educational opportunities
for positive creative expression of African American and other underserved
populations. Now, more than ever, the work of The World Stage is needed.
Please take a moment and contribute
to The World Stage today. Click here to make
a tax deductible donation by credit card or PayPal at our secure site. We ask
that you pledge a minimum of $100.00 but contributions of any amount will help to
further our mission. Alternately you may send a check payable to The World
Stage to the address above.
Please make your contribution for the preservation and practice of
African American culture now! Please don’t delay.
We thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
The World Stage Board of Directors
