The Virtual City Exchange is a community for sharing information and advice about virtual city models. We hope to engage with a range of users and stakeholders of city models to explore ideas and issues involved with managing a virtual city model (we use the term 'city model' to describe any large scale urban representation).
Presently, there are many ways of creating virtual city models, using a range of modelling methods. The Virtual City Exchange is keen to explore the application and management of these models, the use of standards, legal and copyright issues and the challenges of keeping the model updated.
Many city models are set up as a tool for urban planning, architectural visualisation, traffic simulation or GIS analysis. We would like to hear about your experiences with your own city model data and how it has been applied.
The Virtual City Exchange is operated by Martin Podevyn, a research student at Northumbria University in the UK. Martin is currently in his third and final year of study researching 3D city models around the world. For further information please email me at mpodevyn@gmail.com |
